Great sound for their size.
These speakers are pretty amazing. They offer excellent controls to help adjust them to a room's acoustic environment. They are easy to set up. They are a bit heavy for their small size, but I hope that means they have good speakers inside. I'm on the fence about their value for the money. They are a bit on the expensive side.I think my only issue with them is that their low end doesn't deliver as much bass as my Polk shelf speakers that were half that price.Other than the bass, they sound pretty amazing and would be an excellent addition to a professional or home studio environment.

Amazing speakers for a small office
I've had my eyes on a pair of studio monitors for a few years. I'm not an audio engineer or an audiophile, but I do appreciate good sounds. I've had a pair of Sennheiser 6XX headphones for a few years, and I love them. Going from my nice headphones to a cheap pair of computer speakers was such a bad experience that I wanted quality monitors for non-headphone listening. These speakers are great. I immediately noticed the neutral EQ. I don't care for headphones or speakers that tinker with the sound without my input. I'm able to adjust the EQ on my computer based on what I'm listening to, and the speakers respond to all the changes beautifully. And the sounds quality doesn't distort when you turn them up. I doubt that I've reached even one quarter of the total volume these are capable of. I'm using these in a fairly small room, so I don't ever plan to turn them up.These are amazing, and I sure I'll have them for years.

Changed how music sounds for me
I bought these on a recommendation to move away from audio speakers to reference monitors. The basic idea is that these do not "paint" the sound but instead given a totally accurate output of the master/mix. This means you can hear the lower quality in a poor audio file (e.g. a poor quality mp3 or audio stream) BUT when you listen to a high-quality input i.e. Itunes, vinyl they sound amazing. You can actually hear what the artist and/or professional sound engineer want you to hear. Not exaggerating when I say it makes songs I've listened to for 20 years sound new - I can hear things I never heard before. High and low-end response are nuts!! I added the HS8S sub to share the bass load - but these work well alone. I'd recommend buying these first and adding the sub as an up-spec. The build, design, and controls are all top-notch. Pro tip: buy Mogami Gold cables too.

They replaced my HR824's I had for 20+ years
Excellent accuracy. Loud. Crisp. If you want to hear more low end , buy the subwoofer. For me, I use them for mixing and they are simply wonderful as is. They're big, but look nice. Sound adjustment controls are great and make a difference in your space. I've got no buzzing, or digital scratchiness. The amps are well shielded or grounded. There's no unwanted sounds coming from these. Super happy with my purchase.

I'm a professional listener, and love these
These are fantastic monitors. They produce a good flat, non-enhanced non-colored sound. I use these to listen to music. I am not a professional studio person, or an amateur recorder. They are hooked up to my pc through a USB audio interface box for playback only. My ITunes music library is MASSIVE. I converted all my cd's to apple lossless format, and it sounds fantastic. These monitors have enabled me to hear sounds in the music that I have never heard on artificial speakers. I really love the natural sound, and love knowing that this is how the music was really mixed, and intended to be heard. With the rear firing bass port, placement away from a rear wall does make a big difference, and with any high quality monitors, such as these, room acoustics does play a big part. The built in amps are powerful, and even when turned way up, do not produce hissing or white noise of any kind. I can’t speak for studio use, but for professional listening, they are awesome. And for the price, they are a bargain.

Great monitor for the price...Are they better than previous HS80's - not sure.
Wasssap mothalovas! I'm coming from the previous model HS80, as one of mine recently blew. It's been interesting comparing the two. I thought they'd be more similar from most of the reviews I've read, but I feel like they definitely have uniquely different sounds. The HS80 (previous model) seemed to be a bit more tamed, with less pronounced highs. I think the new HS8's may need some burn in time, but at first listen, they seem almost shrill to my ears. They definitely seem clean, but I feel like the HS80's had a more pleasing overall sound. The HS8's may be better for mixes, but time will tell. I always thought the 80's had a good combo of delivering an accurate mix, while also still sounding good to listen to. I'll have to see if the break in (and time) makes me favor these more, but right now, I'm sort of wishing I bought a used HS80 instead of the new set of HS8s. With all that being said, I still do feel like these monitors are the best bang for your buck that you can buy, and the differences may decrease after breaking the new speakers in, but these are my initial thoughts, and will update if things change. I would still recommend these as a great set of mixing speakers. They pack a lot of punch, and do sound crisper than the HS80's...I'm just not sure if that extra crispness is as pleasing to my ears personally. I'm listening to everything from "Betty Davis Eyes" to Droid Bishop to give these a good listen. Currently cautiously optimistic.
