Rocky Horror Picture Show
T**I
The Preeminent Rock Musical
Within the handful of truly timeless films, few have proved as wildly daring as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Its gleeful projections of sexual liberation are watershed, and propelled to dizzying heights by a convergence of knife-sharp dialogue, over-the-top musical convention, and a perverse homage to 1950s sci-fi and horror films.Movie landmarks tend to be fronted by an indelible face, and here it’s provided by an alien transvestite from the Transylvania galaxy -- one Dr. Frank N. Furter, played with otherworldly swagger by the remarkable Tim Curry. Two stranded newlyweds visit our doctor’s castle, where’s he patching together a Frankensteinian beefcake by the name of Rocky Horror. Curry inhabits the character with the grinning, campy eroticism of an out-of-this-world rock front man, propelling the doctor into the pantheon of truly iconic film characters."The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a reminder of the towering creative heights a movie can reach when it insists on being everything it can imagine itself to be. This legendary slab of rock n roll cinema is a mile marker for counterculture’s rare insurgence into the wider zeitgeist, and presents a strong case for greatest rock film ever. - (Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!) - WATCHED IT? THEN WATCHLIST: "Stadium Anthems," "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "The Kingdom."

not part of the cult that loves this movie
All through my late teens and twenties I heard family members and friends talk about how much they enjoyed this show, and they insisted I should go to it. The day before my brother's wedding he blasted the soundtrack through the house on his stereo, on repeat for hours. I got so tired of hearing "The Time Warp" as I decorated the basement for the reception. Several years ago I tried watching this train wreck of a show and gave up on it after a half hour or so. A few days ago I saw it was available to stream as part of Amazon Prime, so I decided to give it another go. I put it on my watch list, and this morning decided to watch it. I forced myself to watch a bit longer this time, probably 2/3 of the way through, but I still couldn't finish it. I like cheesy, campy movies but this one just does absolutely nothing for me. I understand from talking to others that most of the fun is in the audience participation. Even imagining myself at a theater with friends, spouting off the addition lines and using the props like newspapers or umbrellas, squirt guns, throwing hotdogs, etc., I think I'd be irritated and bored. Guess I'm just not part of the cult.

If you dont like it..stop being a prude!
I remember the first time I saw this on VHS that my mom had on a strep throat week off from middle school. This movie blew me away! I love everything about this film...I just wish the end song set up was a bit different...ANDroids fighting brad and janet? No...doesnt happen but one hell of a night they did have...separately at times! Haha. The collection is fantastic and worth every dime. You gotta be in the mood for it I will say that and boy did I love being Columbia for Halloween during my partying days!

Tim Curry, Tim Curry, Tim Curry
I am the opposite of some other viewers; when I first saw this in 1994 in the theater, I wondered what was the big deal. It seemed old and campy and I didn't know any of the "talk backs" and audience participations and such. I still don't. Watching the DVD last night, I was amazingly entertained. Tim Curry explodes all over this production with the most outrageous, outsized, campy performance possible. He was born to play the role of Frank and he's funny as hell. The songs are goofy and catchy. This production does not take itself seriously and honestly it doesn't ask you to either. Is it cheap looking, goofy, non sensical, absurd, and often in poor taste? Absolutely. Is it about having fun with movie stereotypes while singing catchy tunes? Yes. Is it an allegory for living life to the fullest and having a good time, no matter how hard it is? That is for you to judge. There is actually a reason people like watching this movie over and over and only a small part of that has to do with drugs and alcohol. "Rocky Horror" says that it is okay to just have fun for an hour and a half while sitting in the dark and in these times in which we all live that still has some value.

Ripping away at the morals of America
I grew up in a city where there was a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show every weekend with the live performance that went along with it. Yet I never went to see it for some reason even though it was a bit of a tradition for young people. I guess it’s better late to see it than never. The musical is based upon the two sides of America. Susan Sarandon and her fiancé Barry Bostwick are the straight and narrow white middle class couple that the United States grew up with after World War II. They find themselves at a castle where people are not bound by the country’s morals, especially sexually. That’s personified in the cross dressing Frank N Furter/Tim Curry. The music goes through the same transition the characters go through. The first tune sounds like one you might find in a Broadway production. As soon as they end up in the castle however things take on a Rock tinge starting with The Time Warp. Rock of course being the music of rebellion and sex. There was also some deft casting. Besides Sarandon and Curry, Meat Loaf showed up as a kind of Frankenstein’s monster Curry had created. Charles Gray was also the commentator who usually got cast as a villain such as in James Bond films.I have to say that the last third of the film didn’t have the same energy as the rest. The music wasn’t as good in the ending either. Still it’s quite a show and something to enjoy with both the story and the tunes.

A great 1970’s cult classic. Loved it.
This is a classic cult musical comedy. It’s not meant to be taken seriously and is a bit of a spoof but Most people who would buy this know what to expect. For those who don’t it’s a 1970’s musical dry comedy. I have seen it many many time in both cinema and on stage and love it. I bought the Blu-ray copy as I only had a vhs tape of it. The DVD is very clear and the sound is great. I actually noticed stuff I hadn’t seen before so it is very good quality. * One note of caution * on your very first play of this DVD you will be offered a choice of the UK or US version of the movie. Choose wisely, for once you make that choice there is no going back. You are forever stuck with that choice. I have never seen the US remake of this so can’t comment on it. But the original is the UK version and I love it. Hope this helps 😉

Buggy and lip sync out avoid at all cost it ruins the film
Initial startup asked if I wanted the US or UK version not sure on the difference but the song soundtrack seemed different and now I can't choose the US version. Was looking forward to this but the lip sync is so far out it's unwatchable as it does shows the remastered soundtrack is poorly layered on top. The b&w start option the sync was even worse. I would like to try the US version on the disk and see if it's better but it will not give me the option as other have said it sticks on the resume instead.Edit, found if you select mono the sync seems to be ok

Classic Rock Musical
This is one of the great classic rock musicals. It redefined entertainment and made possible gender bending that had not gone on before. I remember seeing the original stage production at the end of the King's Road in London. It was a magical experience. This reproduction on DVD has the original cast but the production itself is somewhat tame, mainly set in a studio. If it had only been more lavish it would have caught more easily the original excitement.

The DVD equivelant of Marmite
Had several copies of this including a a copy on VHS (my very first copy)Bought this as old one scratched. One of my favourites which I always tell people it the DVD version of Marmite... You either love it or hate it.Nothing of course, will ever beat seeing this on stage. Just let loose and relax and enjoy. I personally think that Rocky Horror holds different meanings to everyone but I also think there are some people who just don't get it at all.
