Should the pills be purple or red orange? Normally they are purple but this last order is a red orange.

does the softgels comes in an dark orange color and has a fishy smell?

The softgels are a dark orange/redish color. I have not taken them so I do not know if they have a fishy smell, however most all Prenatal vitamins, including these, have DHA, which sometime will have a reaction with your body and cause a fishy smell. However, if you have any questions or side effects that you are concerned about, you should talk to you doctor.

Is it plant based gelatin or animal based?

Hello. There is gelatin in this product which is derived from Pork & Fish.

expiry date of the items

dont buy, they send expired medications. i received a bottle with expiration date of April, 2020. Today is currently March, 2021.
