Look elsewhere for now.
Useless in its current form. Easy to set up with the tutorial on Adafruit, but ultimately broken. The issue is that the readings max out at a very low soil moisture content (around 3-4% VWC), so unless the soil is absolutely bone dry, you won't have any idea if your soil is 5% or 45% water. Disappointing, but hopefully Adafruit can remedy. They are usually better than this.

Overpriced Random Number Generator
I was able to get this to work with my Raspberry Pi, however it was not useful. This device just creates random numbers, regardless of soil moisture. I was not able to see any difference in readings in moist vs. dry soil. The temperature sensor does work.
