As soon as i started to use this, there were problems; i was simply transferring data from a Samsung 1TB portable drive that i have had years because it was almost full and after copying a files from a folder containing about 200 GB of media files, it simply stopped... couldn't finish copying. so i tried formatting the drive, quick format, same problem. so i did a full format over night and then tried again. seemed to work for a while but then started happening again. and then developed further problems in that when it stopped working it would lock up my entire computer, i couldn't even start the task manager. after waiting an hour to see if the situation would resolve itself i had to turn the PC off at the source, never a decision to be taken lightly. tried again copying only a few files at a time. seemed to work for a while then hit similar problems. this time it froze up my system when i tried to enter a folder on the drive to see what files had copied across (because the copying data pop-up window was not displaying). i have no problem when bulk copying between 2 other drives i have and tried using the same 'tried and tested' cables that i use to connect to those 2 drives. still the same problems. gave up in the end, formatted the drive to erase my data and returned it. ordered a WD instead, i have 3 of those that work fine.

This is a neat and compact model with a high capacity. The drive appears reliable and does not get hot.The provided software is somewhat disappointing. I had problems with getting it to run correctly. Contacting support did provide a prompt response and needed a reinstall of the software.Despite this the backup program is erratic taking, at times, a large amount of CPU. Despite scheduling a daily backup, which does work, it randomly starts running backups at other times.The backup also seems to take much longer that I would expect.

A good drive but I ordered this specifically because it was USB-C. Its actually a USB 3 with a clumsy adaptor that fits on the end of the cable and because it's so clumsy its easy to disconnect accidentally. Would be better to include a dedicated USB-C cable.

Well, it is a disk, a 2.5 inch HDD from Seagate: One Touch HDD (1707) with 5TB space. As large as it gets in the 2.5 inch portable range, it has been the maximum for quite some time, and it is unlikely that disks in this form factor (SFF) will get any bigger. New paradigms of storage will be required to go higher.Have used Seagate disks for years and never had a problem. This one, however, was terribly loud: the mechanics sound strained, it is not quite right. So it went back, Amazon just took it back no questions asked, as it was within the first 14 days. New one arrived the next day, quiet as a mouse. All good.One star off for the imperfect one. Otherwise, well it is what it is: a disk with max. 2.5 inch capacity. If you need, then get it. Mostly, though, smaller disks can do and with the USB-C disk prices going down, perhaps these disks are soon a thing of the past. As long as they last, however, they are just fine. Have some that are 4-5 years old and still going strong with lots of input/output.

Brilliant. Very simple to set up and easy to use. Knowing I have a proper backup for my Mac laptop gives me peace of mind. The first backup took around 50 mts but from then on it’s just a couple of minutes to keep it up to date. I’m no technology expert so it was very helpful that this divide is so user-friendly!
