Great Book, indispensable but not just for the sugar trade.
very comprehensive book on every aspect of sugar. not just for those in the sugar business, this book gives excellent arguments why sugardoes not make you fat. if you think sugar gives kids a "sugar rush" or buzz, then you are a moron, and probably won't be swayed by the cogent arguments in this book. if you have an open mind, then this book provides evidence that you can follow up and confirm or refute yourself.the book also covers sugar's history in the slave trade and so many other aspects. there are chapters on numerous sugar people from the sugar trade. there is a chapter on me,where the author is too kind. this book was a labour of love by one of the most highly respected chaps in the sugar trade, and one of the nicest guys. do your self a favour and check it out.

Whether you work in the sugar industry or are trying ...
Whether you work in the sugar industry or are trying to work out whether sugar is a poison or just another calorie, this book is for you. Drawing on nearly four decades of experience in the industry, Kingsman tells the story of sugar in the authentic voice of an insider, free from jargon and with compelling clarity. You will never look at a spoonful of sugar the same way again.

Well researched, well written book
Jonathan takes you through the history of the sugar market, over-rated concerns about obesity, the controversial role of speculators, how companies are implementing sustainability, the way governments interfere in the market etc. The author puts each chapter in context with a story from his own experience being involved in sugar trading and an interview with prominent people involved at different points in the sugar supply chain. Recommended reading.

If Splenda were a book, here it is
Mr Kingman: you got some interesting stories as a sugar industry veteran but once you get into "health" you're completely out of your depth... and you certainly doesn't understand how science works. Once a lobbyist always a lobbyist.Interested in learning more insightful things about commodity markets, from either an academic or a journalist: try Javier Bras, or Scott Irwin.Glad Mr Kingsman is living a kingly live in Switzerland after all the sugar trading. Some quotes:"per capita sugar consumption has been falling in most developed economies" -- where did this guy get his data from? The local tennis club in Lausanne"sugar doesn't cause highs on children" -- I think he outsourced child rearing to his au pairThere are other pearls. In summary: no erudition, nor deep knowledge here either. If you really want to understand how sugar affects your brain, search Dr. Lufkin online@Kingman: go learn some real science.

Nice coverage of sugar industry
I really enjoyed to read this book, it gives lot of intersting facts about sugar and sugar industry. I didn't like very much the praise he maid about industrial actors like "Cargill", it was a bit too much, that's true that their job is usefull, but everybody knows that they don't do that for moral reasons, it is for money..Also I would have like to have an overview of the sugar cane growing which I missed in this book.Anyway, it's a really nice book, I recommend.

a fews years ago i red a fascinating book..."SALT,A WORLD HISTORY. from MARK KURLANSKY.."..this is a book in the same vein and also different.....it is not a history of sugar but a very complete and detailed analysis of this very important staple in our life...obviously the guy ,JONATHAN KINGSMAN, knows what he is talking about, having been a sugar trader and one of the most important sugar analyst in the business.....some might be repelled by a lot of statistics, i was not since numbers tends to explain a lot of behavioural facts......what i retain the most out of that brilliant book wich is explained in detail... is this intriguing fact..........."sugar does not bring diabete....sugar in excess brings obesity wich will bring diabete......"perfect gift for the holidays........
