Exceeded Expectations
I am a guitar player and home recordist. My extended loaner Precision bass went back to its owner recently and I needed to replace it. I ordered the black with maple fretboard version.I fully expected to have to setup and adjust this and even had files, sandpaper and other tools at the ready. It show up nearly perfect. The only thing I had to do was tiny tweaks to 2 saddles for intonation. Everthing else was exactly where I would have put it with my setup. The neck is straight with a tiny bit of relief. It plays great. It also sounds really good unplugged which was a surprise.I am completely satisfied with this bass and I'm sort of amazed at what you get for the price. I did opt for the maple fretboard because, in my experience, whatever they use for rosewood on non-maple fretboards on cheaper guitars is often less than stellar. Maple seems to be constantly better quality. This bass sounds, plays and records great.

The new Affinity is great.
You will need to set it up obviously like every other instrument regardless of the price a set up is always a given. You have to customize your instrument and tailor it to your needs. I upgraded my saddles to brass because it’s my preference. The pick ups are great. The finishing and detailing of the bass is great too. In my case, no sharp frets, no high frets no buzzing. Something I had not experienced before in the affinity series although I don’t own none anymore, except this one.

Lives to the name
Fender lives up to their name yet again. Wonderful bass for beginners up to experienced players. Sound is clean through multiple amps and di systems. Neck is well made and no bends or deformations to be found.

Save up and Aim Higher. You will be thankful.
Major letdown after hearing how great it would be for a beginner. Neck so warped I did not want to risk breaking the truss rod, so I sent it back. Neck is totally UNFINISHED. Looks like something that wasn't completed during the manufacturing process. Sharp edged frets and would need work to smooth them out. Save some more money up and buy a better guitar. My Hofner Ignition Bass only cost me $350, is completely finished and plays like a charm with proper adjustments. Don't waste your money or break your Neck (truss rod).

Okay Bass. Has some QC Issues
I bought this bass as a platform to mod. The fretwork isn’t great. I had several sharp fret edges I had to file. As it came, it was nearly unplayable. I had to set the neck and adjust the string height. After all of that, it’s a decent bass. I’m going to replace the pick guard, all of the electronics and the tuners over time. If you don’t know how to set up a guitar, either pay a local shop to set it up, or just buy one from them.

Great sounding pickup's. and the quality is nice.
Great sounding pickup's. I purchased this bass as a spare and after playing it i will be using it along with my other axes. I have been playing for over 60 years and this bass sounds as good as my 1964 Pression Bass, I love the way it plays.
