Silence Of The Lambs: 30th Anniversary Original Soundtrack ExpandedEdition

Wonderful, semi-operatic thriller score.
"The Silence of the Lambs" Howard Shore's score was almost overlooked back in 1991 because of the huge furore surrounding the other achievements of this exceptional thriller, most notably the performances. Although that's understandable, after repeat viewings it becomes apparent just how important Shore's score is. He steers away from too much incidental music, instead using his cues to embellish the scenes which are scored, something most film composers fail to do. Incidental music is usually subordinate to imagery and therefore fails to create any sense of atmosphere beyond what is visual. Most of us forget that when we go to 'see' a movie, we are also listening to it (well, a lot of us are). And so Shore's score is as perfect for this film as Herrmann's was for Psycho. There are no catchy themes to speak of with the exception of one motif, yet this music is hard to switch off because it is tonally perfect for the structure of the story. The best piece is probably the closing theme, at once brooding and exhiliarating, final and wonderous. A great work.

still packs a wallop after nearly 30 years !
howard shore's score matches the mood of the moment throughout he has a wonderful ability to capture thepsychological essence of any scene in music the notes seem to come from the world of the unconsciousand dive deeply into the world of dreams and dreamingI still think the best cut follows Patrice's flashback to her father's funeral

Dark and ominous score.
I like this score. From the start, it sets the tone for the movie: dark and ominous. My favorite tracks are: Main Title, The Asylum, The Abduction, Lecter in Memphis, Lecter Escapes, The Cellar, and Finale. They are all somewhat creepy and dark in their own ways. The atmosphere is perfectly set here.I recommend this soundtrack for anyone who likes The Silence of the Lambs. It is a great score and is easy to listen to frequently.

Nicely expanded from the original version
Cd was brand new, still in shrink wrap, arrived early, and is completely worth it. New tracks are blended into the order of appearance with the original tracks, and it sounds great!

Don't be fooled
Be careful to read the description. i thought that this was an actual musical score (sheet music) having already bought the soundtrack, but it is actually a CD for the soundtrack for the movie. i suggest that amazon should change the name of this item but i doubt this will happen. i do like the music on CD and i do realise its my mistake for buying a second copy but my rating is for the naming of the item rater than the content.

Wonderful and chillingly atmospherical score by Howard Shore.
I used to own this brilliant soundtrack on cassette and pretty much worn it out up till around 6 years ago. Recently purchased the amazing soundtrack on CD and it still amazes and surprises me. Each track on this top quality CD is full to the brim with atmosphere and a terrific sense of chills and thrills building up to a crescendo on a couple of tracks and remaining tranquil and thoughtful on a couple of others. Howard Shore seems to know almost on instinct what is required for a wonderful and chillingly beautiful score as he has produced here.A couple of my favourite tracks on here if I were to choose favourites would probably be 'Main Title' and 'Lambs Screaming'. But all in all, I would pick the entire album as all the tracks on this brilliant CD are full of great and wonderful atmosphere. I would probably think that this score is one of his finer efforts that he has produced in his long and illustrious career so far to date. Most people out there would remember Howard Shore for his scores for 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy but way before he did all that he produced scores for a whole number of films starting in the early 80's right through to today including 'Videodrome' in 1982 and 'Philadelphia' in 1993 among many others. The film was sheer class and had bags and bags of atmosphere and suspense in its bucket loads and in my mind deserved all the Oscars it won. Having listened to this album a number of times throughout the years, I felt that Howard Shore deserved one for this brilliant achievement which is a terrific listen no matter how many times you listen to it in my opinion. Two thumbs up for this.
