Feels nice, works well
Took a chance on this product and was not disappointed. This is the first rangefinder I've owned, but I do have experience with camera lenses and various scopes. Optical quality is not perfect but is not budget either - this feels very quality. Features and performance as a rangefinder are perfect for my needs and I am quite happy with purchase. Long version: Image quality - Center image is very clear, with no noticeable fringing of any kind. I tested this optic in fading light and had no noticeable flare/glare or reflection even with the sun angled to my front. Diopter/focus adjustment is quite generous and I was able to get a useable image even without my glasses. (I have moderate myopia.) There is quite a bit of softness at the edges of the image, but this is typical for optics of this size/price. I would say this is above average actually as the edges, while soft, still exhibit no fringing or aberration. The coatings do give the image noticeable color shift, but not so much that anything looks unnatural. There also appears to be a loss or 1-2 stops of light but otherwise perfectly adequate brightness even at dusk. Overall, the optical quality does give the impression of being quality. I think this will be replacing a set of mini binos in my daypack! As a rangefinder - Unit does shut itself off somewhat quickly after getting a reading but 'boots up' within a few seconds of pressing a button. My furthest reading was in low light off a rock face at about 1850 yards and I was able to range trees out to 800-900 quite consistently. Getting a reading also feels very responsive, although again I have no other rangefinders to compare to. The OLED overlay is very bright at the highest setting to the point of exhibiting bleed. Of 5 brightness settings with the fresh (and included) CR2 battery, setting 2 is just visible at midday, and setting 3 is perfect for most conditions. Size/weight is also quite important to me so it bears mentioning this is quite small/light for a 6x rangefinder at just a hair over 5 oz. With the battery, I measured this unit at 143g which is the same as competitor S and V's closest offerings. Just throwing that out there as Astra does not have weight data listed anywhere except on the Amazon product details. Accessories/Packaging: The packaging this came in feels premium as does the case, lanyard, and cleaning cloth it comes with. Again, everything feels quality! I especially like the elastic clasp on the included case as it is easy to manipulate while also being quiet. Overall I am quite impressed and will defiantly be keeping Astra in mind should I find myself in the market for a larger rangefinder in the future.

Great value for the money!!!!
Ive used range finders for many years for many different reasons, hunting, range curiosity, golfing, target shooting the list goes on! My last vortex rangefinder took a bath so it no longer worked. After some research and some reccomendations I decided to purchase this one, and Im not dissapointed even in the least. What you get at such a good price point is the biggest plus. The clarity, focal adjustabity, and easy of use is just as suprising as the price. Ive used other range finders and discovered that changing the settings can be difficult the first few times you use it. This one is straight forward. The mode button on the side navagates you through your settings so you can adjust them to what you are wishing to achieve. The accuracy of it is very very good as well. Obviously I didnt measure out to 1k yards after ranging what I was looking at but out to 100 yards its right on! I couldnt be more happy this Astra Optix range finder. Ive had Vortex and Sig Sauer range finders in the past and payed almost double for simiar performance. My favorite part of this particular model is the red display. The black displays get lost in the shadows and this one is bright and easy to see in all lighting conditions. Their handshake warrenty is a huge perk as well. Sometimes getting warrenty stuff taken care of with these kinds of electronics can be a huge pain. From their warrenty description I feel like Astra will stand behind their products 100%. I would highly reccomend it to all of my friends who do have a practical need for one and for those who dont. Way to go Astra for bringing an affordable hugh quality range finder to the game!!

Dollar for dollar, it delivers
I bought this to replace a well-used 20-year-old Leica LRF1200 that fell of the back of a truck somewhere in Wyoming. Not wanting to again drop north of $600 for another new Leica, or even $300 for a used LRF, I researched numerous offerings in a pretty crowded field. This came out of that effort. My experience with the OTX1600 is viewed in comparison to my late, lamented LRF. Pros: - The unit’s range finding ability is superb. In Gun Mode it outranged the single-purpose LRF on soft targets (trees, brush, animals, etc) well beyond 1,000 yards. On recent outings, it easily outperformed my buddy’s Sig rangefinder. - Having other modes makes it useful for other purposes, although since I already have a golf rangefinder, the OTX probably won’t see duty on my golf course. But the capability does make it more useful. - The red LED readout is much clearer than a black/grey LCD. - The low price for all this performance is a BIG pro. Cons (i.e., minor annoyances): - The OTX is small, light and is designed, like all the other units now on the market, to be operated one-handed. While that may be a pro to some, it makes it much harder to take readings at small targets beyond a hundred yards. And lack of a tripod mount means you have to wrestle with a sleeve in order to get the precise, long-range readings this unit is capable of. - The optics are nothing special, again making me miss my LRF. - While the readout from the target is almost instantaneous, the nearly 3 second delay in bringing up the bullseye-shaped target reticle when the operating button is first pressed can be infuriating if you are presented with a moving target. - Focusing my unit is a challenge. First, the OTX focus knob is kind of loose, and the unit will work its way out of focus while banging around your neck or in a truck. Second, the focus of the image and readout doesn’t match the reticle focus. I choose to have the target view in focus and struggle with an out-of-focus reticle. All in all, for me the cons don’t outweigh the pros, considering its actual ranging capabilities. I mean, the price was right, and I’m not sure at this point that I would want to spend a whole lot more just to clean up the minor annoyances.

Upgraded from Bushnell "The Truth"
Well packaged, all the goodies included. I needed an upgrade since this one has adjustable focus... works very well. Will be using it deer hunting this year. Only Cons IMO is there are really too many unnecessary features. For instance, there is no real reason to show hold over degrees that one would use for long ranges. If you just use Archery or standard mode (with horizontal distance mode ON), it's going to show you what range to shoot at! And since scopes have range lines etc., just hold over according to your scope not the range finder. So that mode could be removed. GUN MODE: I can't seem to figure this mode out. I was just ranging a group of trees about 150yds away, yet the range it shows is incorrect. The farthest tree was 160 yds, yet it shows 140's when you hit button. Then when I ranged the tree farthest away it was actually 168ish?? Maybe someone else has it mastered lol The manual says range a group of targets and the range indicated will be the farthest target in your field of view so IDK. One thing I find backwards is the mode icons. My old unit when in bow mode showed the icon of the ARC. This way you know you were shooting up/ down and it displayed the adjusted shoot @ range. This unit however uses the horizontal line with 2 vertical lines on each end to give you the shoot @ range, but can also display the ARC which gives you the degree of angle. Again, seems like another mode not needed. Basically you can use Archery mode, and it will give you the corrected shoot @ range for bows, guns, golf or anything else. I really like being able to adjust my focus so that's worth the upgrade!!

Nice tool
If this unit lives up to my first impressions it's a win. Compared to my neighbors vortex side by side its a much better unit. Light and easy to us. Looking forward to carring this tool. RANGE IS FURTHER THEN ANTICIPATED. Time to put it to my test in my world will update after season. Update: I have a few hunts with this unit now. My opinion stays the same. My son's downhill shot and range givin was spot on. We trusted its yardage over the the bigger companies yardage which were different with the very steep shot.. End result he pulled off an unadvised head shot close to vertical 226 yard very ethical harvest. This unit is great the only test left is longevity which I am not concerned with.
