FANTASTIC Boos Block for carving!
I just received this new Boos Carving Block this evening and I am thrilled with it! This is my 3rd Boos Block and the quality of all of them is Fantastic as usual. I needed to replace my plastic carving board with a WELL because it got warped and the juice from meats were getting all over the floor or on the counter tops! I had just had it. But for the past 8 or more years I have been a very loyal BOOS Block customer because of their exceptional quality and workmanship. I first got a Boos Block over 8 years ago when I saw one that was about 34" tall with 4 legs and a very thick block on top. It was very expensive back then but the quality was fantastic...so we had to buy it! I don't know what I would do without it. It stays right next to our kitchen island and is used constantly - everyday! Then about 5 years ago I bought one to put on top of our kitchen counter so the 2 of us could be chopping - cutting - dicing at the same time. Now I needed to replace an old - plastic - and VERY warped cutting board with a well around it to capture the juice from carving turkeys - chickens - roasts etc. The warped plastic one was letting the juice drip on the floor or the counter tops and I had finally had it! So I went on the internet and found a GREAT Boos Carving block on Amazon at a pretty reasonable price. When I opened up the package tonight I was amazed at how HEAVY the block was and how sturdy it is too! This block will NEVER EVER WARP - and I don't think anyone makes a better product than BOOS! When it comes to Butcher blocks and carving blocks - you can't find a better product than a BOOS!! And it is made in the USA! This one even has carved notches on the 2 sides so you can turn it over to use the other side too. What a BEAUTIFUL and great quality product!

Oil before use
I think like others have noted, warping and cracking is a user error. The prospective buyer should look on YouTube for proper care of a boos board. Also, while it is true that the instructions for the board say to oil it only every month of so, that is after it has been "broken in." The board needs to be oil saturated when you get it. For my board, I liked it every day for 5 days excessively. Only once the board stopped soaking up oil did I stop and even start using it! Please do this, and it should help guarantee that you won't damage your board. After doing this, and using my board, I saw just how great the using this board was. It was comfortable, andy knife feels good on the board. Because it is heavy, the board doesn't slip around, which is a huge win. I HIGHLY recommend the board.

Simply the Best!
I can't begin to tell you how many cutting boards I've gone through; always searching for that perfect one. I've used everything from Corian boards to those flimsy plastic things and have never in my life been so satisfied with a purchase. I've owned this board for nearly a year now and all I can say is that THIS BOARD IS WONDERFUL! It is very substantial and heavy so it doesn't shift around on my countertop (especially if you put a kitchen towel under it), my knives love it because it does not dull the edges, and it is beautifully crafted and sturdy. I use the grooved side for cutting meats and poultry and the flat side for vegetables, etc. It is an absolute joy to use and is not too difficult to care for. I use warm soapy water with regular dish soap and I oil it faithfully every month. It looks nearly brand new. I use the Boos Board Cream but I understand that simple food grade mineral oil, i.e., laxative, works well too. One tip for oiling the board: wrap one hand in a plastic grocery bag (like a mitten) and use it to rub the oil/cream into the board. You can use the other hand to dispense the product onto the wrapped hand or directly onto the board. When you're finished, simply pull the bag off inside out and dispose of it. This method drastically cuts down on the mess. Let the oil soak in for 24 hours if possible (I stand it on one end) and wipe the excess off with a paper towel. You really can't go wrong with this cutting board.
