I was surprised to see that these have a groove that regular bamboo hoops do not have. I feel this groove does hold the material tighter so there is no slipping when using thin material that sometimes happens with the bamboo hoops. It does take some time placing the material in the hoop and getting the hoop tightened. I haven't quite figured out how to tighten it without puckering the material (the groove makes it hard to just slip over the inner hoop) so I am hoping there is a trick to it that I need to figure out. Once I do I will probably change the rating but until then I give it a 4 star.

I enjoy needlework and prefer a hoop for most cross-stitch projects because my hands have arthritis and the hoop is easier to hold. However, often tightening the hoop over the fabric results in the fabric bunching, or the inner and outer hoops slipping off. These hoops have a ridge and divot inside so they nest together firmly without bunching or marring the fabric. For the price, you get a great variety of sizes for just about any project. I would recommend these to anyone who enjoys cross stitching or embroidery to make their crafting easier and more enjoyable.

They have an inner lip that is supposedly used to lock the hoop into place, but what it really does is make the hoops difficult to seat properly and tighten down at the same time. They’re not really worth the money at all. They’re not very sturdy not easy to use.
