I have purchased several Magswitch products with good satisfaction😊😊This time I purchased base and magnets separately from Amazon and Rockler for a project. Couldn’t understand how one reviewer hadtrouble getting holes to line up for magnets until I tried inserting bolts. Socket Anchor bolts are 8/32 thread and holes were 9/1000 too small and had to ream out to insert suppliedbolts. Cannot believe such an expensive magnet system which I like tremendously comes drilled with a hole that is more apt for tapping a thread. I have access to machinist tools so I was lucky. Enlarging holes without reamers risks malalignment with brass threaded inserts. Never problem when magnets already installed by manufacturer.

This Magswitch Universal Base Universal Base Magswitch needs a kit . great base for permanent set up's for feather boards and thin stock jigs.

I purchased two magswitch items to discover I needed the base. Once I received the base, I discovered I need to order the MagJigs. What started out as a seemingly good deal has turned into a pricey endeavor. I'm sure these tools will be great, but not sure it'll be worth the total cost to finally use them.

I bought the Magswitch Universal Base to use with my Magswitch 150's all supposedly made to go together. It doesn't work, of course, unless you fasten the magnetic holders in place. The base comes with screws to do that. As is typical nowadays, I have no idea if they are metric or imperial, so I fish through my hex keys. The threaded holes in the base are metal inserts, so I have to use the screws that come with this unit. That is fine except that they don't fit through the holes in the magnetic units. Again, I have no idea if the holes in the mag units are drilled to fractional, numbered, or metric size, or if it's just paint in the holes, but I have to drill them out ( all four holes; it is a design defect not a manufacturing defect ). The screws measure a bit over 4mm, so a 4mm drill won't do. I ended up with a fractional drill bit, just enough to make a big enough hole to assemble this unit. It is tricky and a bit of a safety hazard to drill those holes; the magnetic switches are not shaped to fit well into a vise for a drill press, and if you have ever drilled a hole into metal just a little bit larger than an existing hole, you know the drill wants to grab and yank. Which they did. I finally got all four holes drilled so the screws fit, did not get hands injured but got yanked on. I assembled the unit, not smoothly because it doesn't fit very well because the distance between the holes in the mag switch is a tiny bit larger than the center distance between threaded insert holes, so the second screw is unhappy about being fully tightened, which you need to do if you are assembling a clamp. The whole thing is, well, sloppy and stupid. I will make one out of oak. Don't buy this, is my advice.
