I would recommend paying attention to that as I am not the ...
After 16 months of use in a climate controlled IT cabinet, this died. Seems the internal controller went, not the drive itself, which still spins up but only when removed from the housing and connected to a machine directly.Warranty is only 12 months, unlike some other Apricorn drives that have a 3 year warranty. I would recommend paying attention to that as I am not the only reviewer on Amazon with an Apricorn drive that died very young.

Solid, solid, and more solid for travel, performance, and storage...
I had used a previous version of this product for data courier duty a few years ago, and this one did not disappoint during a corporate disaster recovery scenario. The instructions for setting up and using the PINs (admin and user) are easy to follow, and once the drive is in an unlocked state, it works just like any other, high-quality USB drive.Depending on how I was reading/writing (single stream or multiple), I got up to 40+ MB/s going through am okay Ultrabook's USB port. It was plenty big and plenty quick enough to meet all of my needs, and we may end up making it part of our overall DR strategy since it can be a replication target in a remote location (behind a computer) and carried/shipped to a DR site on a moment's notice.Formatted capacity seemed to be a bit over 3.6 TB on mine. I'm not sure if that varies or not, but it more than met my needs.

Works as Advertised... Protects My Sensitive Financial Data
Purchased to host financial records, a better solution than leaving them on my laptop. Very simple to set up, offers a high degree of protection via fast on-board encryption. One nice feature is that it locks itself after 15 minutes of inactivity (preventing unauthorized access automatically). Very easy to setup. Recommended.

Secure and fast
I just received this unit and setup was easy. Login is per the keypad on top and all software is encased in epoxy inside the solid aluminum enclosure. Once logged in my brand new windows 7 computer downloads music files at about 70MB/second which is good for an encrypted drive like this. All my pictures also downloaded at about 70MB/second also. You will however not be able to use the windows 7 backup feature with this drive because it is a 4K sector allocation size drive which is the new standard. It will pause during backup and list an I/O error at the time when the backup is attempting to do a system image. Windows 7 uses the old 512 byte sector allocation size. This is a fairly common experience at this time due to the transition from 512 to 4096 sector size. I still gave this a 5 star rating because for me it is only a minor inconvenience.

Good solid drives
Great device. In use over a year to secure hipaa data. Solid, works, reliable. Called support once on a small issue related to operation. Sorry attitude at that level, however, we have about 6 of these or their smaller brothers in use for secure data backup, never needed to call but once. All perform well. The only hassle is the 14 digit pin we use but that’s not their issue. Also have them set to destroy all data with 6 fails to log in. **For those with data to protect and meet DOJ standards...can’t go wrong**. Have used Apricorn drives for sever decades and they’re as reliable as any. Don’t use an extension usb cable on these for best results just the native made cable.
