6 YEARS LATER, still 95% functional
Adding to the 4 year old review, another two years later - STILL GOING STRONG AT SIX YEARS OLD!!! My sloppy (now young adult) children splatter food into the gears, the bottom of the lid, and overstuff it - every part of the inside has had gross wet foodstuff morphed into dried up grime at one point or another. I clean it with a damp sponge. Three or four times I could not stand it and removed the batteries and gave it a good thorough toothbrush scrub and rinse under full water flow, let it drain and then dry for a couple days, and it still RUNS! I wish I could find some replacement decals to go over the buttons to keep them protected, but so far it just won't die! Apart from the cracked open plastic over the buttons, it still looks like NEW!!! P.S. - when I got this, my 80 year old mother remarked: "Oooh. What a sexy garbage can!" ..... OK, Mom. ----------------- 4 year review ---------------- Adding to 2 year review below, another 2 years later: Still going strong, amazingly - but the plastic covering the buttons have cracked open and thus water can get in there during cleaning - when that happens it goes berserk. But wait a couple days for it to dry, and it's fine again. I think cleaning the top part is the weakness - so I just try to never splatter when putting things in the garbage can - not so successful with teenagers - but that is also a testament to the endurance of the one I got - it has lasted four years with two teenagers in the house!!! ------------2 year review---------------- I didn't want the little can one and it's sort of an afterthought - it has a weird bucket in it - I think it might do well for a large counter top compost bucket. we don't use it - batteries wore out surprisingly fast, not the greatest design, doesn't behave well, etc... HOWEVER, the large can is amazing and I LOVE THIS GARBAGE CAN. It is so good looking it can be live as an appliance at the end of our center island. The battery life is amazing and it has good logical behavior and the "open" button is an awesome addition for those slow scraping operations. I have overstuffed the can repeatedly and it holds up amazingly. Nearly two years old and it's going strong. Tonight the top fell off a two feet high ledge directly onto the lid which was held in the open position ... I thought for sure it would break some plastic component but - it did NOT and so I decided to write this review. There are some in my house who insist on shoving the lid closed, against the servo motor - out of habit of linving in a manual world, and I keep thinking it's going to break the thing but it keeps going. Did I say amazing battery life? Looks really nice still after two years of use ... love it.

Whatta Pair! Big Mouth and Son
This set was a surprising reward to me after getting it setup. Setup was a simple as opening a box and putting in 4 D batteries in each can. I had to laugh at me when attempting to get the little one to work. I searched all over the can to find the On Button. Then I heard this voice next to me say "look on the back" and there is was as big and bright as anyone could expect. That and that alone was the biggest issue about these cans. While I am with the little one permit a short it works and works well. It is sitting next to me as I click away and it is waiting for me to feed it but with the top closed and the red light off. The moment I get close to the motion device it turns red and opens its mouth to get fed. I keep a plastic bag in it; however, I believe when I remove it I will not include the bag. The inside container is removable and has so few dirt collecting points that a bag is redundant. We'll see and if excluding the bag creates a problem I will update this to include that information and now it is just the perfect little gizmo for a tidy workplace. Can on tghe left, shredder on the right and everything else in front of me. Unlike other cans that held the space this one has clean lines and just looks like a quality product and it is indeed a quality product. It just a can but more than that. It is a no smell can of high quality. The Big Mouth can is a fun can sorta. The lines are clean and the top works well. Ours is placed in a position that we cannot help but open the top almost every time one of us walks by. If the dogs are nearby they can't help but see and hear the top which leads to their barking. Thank goodness they have not attacked yet. It holds a 13 gallon bag with ease and the manner in which it's placed provides for no parts of the bag hanging out. Before I forget the one element of the design I would consider changing is placing a small hole on the bottom so that the plastic bag could be removed with ease instead of its not wanting to come out because the bag is so full. This hole would have to be one that opened only to the inside. That way should any liquid accidentally get in the bottom of the can it would stay in the can and not go onto the floor. I thought the batteries would not last any time; however, after constant use neither can has had to have its batteries replaced. Bottom Line: Two perfect trash cans that will enhance the appearance of almost any kitchen and provide practicality congruently. If kitchen space permits the small can would be perfect for use as a wet garbage can since the inner liner is solid and waterproof. This is just a fine set and I would buy it again without hesitation.

Great trash cans
Simply put, this is a great pair of trash cans for the money. They are attractive. The lids work fine (not too slow or fast). The motion sensors take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, a nice feature. The trash bag is held securely in place by a retaining ring which allows you to completely fill the bag without it sinking to the bottom. The sides of the can allow easy removal once the bag is full. There may be better cans out there, but not at this price. UPDATE: The 13.2 gallon trashcan is hands-down the best trash can I've ever owned! After a couple of years using this product, I just had to order a couple more. One for a room addition and the other for a gift. In the first review I qualified my statements with price points. I now remove that qualifier and affirm that there are no better trash cans on the market (at any price)! The bag always stays secure and when it's time to change the bag, the bag is truly full (almost like a trash compactor) and it slides out without ever hanging up on the sides or lip. You really get your money's worth out of every bag. After a short time getting used to the automatic lid it is very handy. ** I also like the little can, but cannot say that it is the best I've ever had. Again, the automatic lid is handy, but the plastic insert precludes getting the most out of every bag like the large can does. I end up buying the sets every time because they are priced better than the single 13.2 cans are by themselves! Go figure?!? I hope this review helps potential buyers. Happy shopping.

Good product, battery cover might break eventually
Broke the battery cover than the automated can was useless. Had for many years, held up for a long time before it broke. If you got a big dog he can easily open it, but was never a problem really. Sometimes the small can turns off because power button hits the wall but the small can is still working amazing

Pleased with cans! BUT Warning: description contains a mistake
I received the two trash cans, and was able to set them up pretty quickly. However there was a mistake in the description that caused me to rush out to get new batteries. The description said that BOTH trash cans operate on D batteries, so I had those ready. However this is not so. The large Trash Can operates on three C batteries (see photo of the trash can lid upside down), and the small Trash Can operates on four D batteries. LARGE TRASH CAN Photo #1 shows the trash can open and closed. The outside dimensions of the large trash can with the cover on are: 28" height x 16" width x 11" depth The inside dimensions of the large trash can with the cover OFF: 22" height x 15.5" width x 10" depth The tall can with the lid open is 37 inches The inside dimensions of the large trash can with the cover ON: 11.5" wide left to right and 6.75" front to back A dinner sized paper plate of 9" in diameter can be deposited without bending width-wise, but has to angled down since the front to back is narrower than 9". The trash bag that fits this can best is 13 gallon trash bag. My favorite is Kirkland 13 gallon Kirkland Signature Drawstring Kitchen Trash Bags - 13 Gallon - Xl Size - 200 Count The big Trash Can operates on three "C" batteries. The battery compartment is under the cover. The battery compartment is easy to reach, and batteries are easy to change. The switch to turn on the Trash Can is also under the cover. Photo #2 of the Trash Can cover upside down. The Trash Can automatic opening mechanism is rather sensitive but I am able to walk by it in my small kitchen without activating it. The cover operates smoothly and closes well preventing odors from escaping. The Trash Can comes with a handy ring, which allows you to neatly tuck in the trash bag inside the can. Photo #3 shows the ring positioned correctly and incorrectly. The first time I put it on the trash bag was visible on the outside. The correct way of using the ring is to insert the bag into the ring, fold the sides of the bag over the ring, place the ring on the sides of the waste basket inside the Trash Can and tuck in the sides of the bag between the basket and the Trash Can. The two problems I encountered are related to the batteries. (1) Wrong size specified in description as I mentioned earlier (2) I normally prefer to use rechargeable AA batteries with jackets that convert them to C or D batteries as needed. However the construction of the large Trash Can is such that the batteries with jackets do not make proper contact in the compartment and are ejected. The regular "C" batteries work fine. SMALL TRASH CAN Photo #4 show the small Trash Can opened and closed. The outside dimensions of the small trash can with the cover on are: 13" height x 10.5" width - 6" depth The inside dimensions of the small trash can with the cover off: 11" height x 9" width x 5" depth The small can with the lid open is 20 inches The trash bag that fits this can best is 4 gallon trash bag. My favorite is Glad 4 gallon due to its nice thickness Glad Small Garbage Bags, 4 Gallon 30 bags . Note that Amazon price for 4 gallon trash bags currently is not good, I purchase my bags at a local grocery store (where the cost works out to 5 cents per bag). Amazon price often changes hopefully per bag price will help you determine when the price becomes good. The small Trash Can operates on four "D" batteries. The battery compartment is located on the bottom, under the waste basket. The battery compartment is a little awkward to reach since you need to have both hands into a fairly small tight tall area. Changing batteries of this Trash Can is harder than those of the large Trash Can. The switch that turns the Trash Can on is on the outside, in the back of the Trash Can. The small Trash Can is little less sensitive than the large one, which I thought was okay since in the tight space of the bathroom it is better that it does not react all the time. It comes with a removable waste basket. The small Trash Can has no ring to hold the garbage bag, and the fit between the removable waste basket and the Trash Can itself is very tight. I had trouble keeping the bag inside between the walls of the inside and outside container. I wound up using scotch tape to tape the sides of the bag to the can so it is not pushed up as I insert the basket back into the Trash Can. When I looked at the instructions, the instructions showed the use without the trash can liner. However, this is not practical as the inside of the bin is going to start smelling bad without the liner. When I closed the Can the trash bag taped to the basket was still bunching a bit at the lip level, and therefore the lid did not close tightly. This means some ordors will escape. Photo #5 show close up of the top the Can with lid open. The three issues I encountered with the small Trash Can: (1) The difficulty of inserting the trash bag. I can see that it will require fussing with it every time. (2) The lid does not close tightly because trash liner is pushed up by bunched up liner (3) I normally prefer to use rechargeable AA batteries with jackets that convert them to C or D batteries as needed. However the construction of the small Trash Can is such that the batteries with jackets do not make proper contact in the compartment and are ejected. The regular "D" batteries work fine. As I was doing research on this product before the purchase, I found a comment by H.Campbell that described how to solve a problem when the lid does not fully open even after the battery has been changed. This comment was one of several comments and was easy to miss. I am including the solution in this review so it is easier to find as several people mentioned this problem. Resetting the lid mechanism after the battery change: PROBLEM: The lid only opens 1 inch even after a battery change. SOLUTION: Manually push the lid into the fully open position and then forced the lid back a little bit more until you hear two clicks from the hinge area. Release the lid (it will go back into the closed position). From there on the automatic lid opener will works like new, going into the fully open position, as before. Overall I am pleased with the Trash Cans. The small issues I encountered with each are not deal breakers. The Trash Cans look good, and open and close well. Update 6/30/11 After two weeks of using the trash cans I have two tips 1) The tall trash can was opening more than I preferred. I have a small kitchen and often when I walked by it would opened and the trash odor escaped. I found that if I turn the trash can around to face the wall it is totally not sensitive when I walk by and it is still convenient to to use and not bad looking. 2) It is difficult to put the trash liner into a small can because the fit between the waste basket and the trash can is very tight. However fitting the liner is a bit easier if you flip the handle of the waste basket forward (or totally remove it). Update 6/24/14 Someone asked me where to find a replacement ring for the large trash can. I searched Amazon for "replacement ring for DZT-50-9" and found that it is being sold separately: http://www.amazon.com/Stars-Replacement-Stainless-Models-Gallon/dp/B008A8HPV6/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1403614641&sr=1-4&keywords=replacement+ring+for+DZT-50-9 I am enjoying the convenience of touch-less trash cans! It is like having a helpful hand whenever I need it. Recommend! Ali Julia review P.S. Update 7/7/2013 Both cans are still running on the original set of batteries (25 1/2 months) Update 12/1/2013 The small trash can became slugging opening and closing, so finally I replaced the original battery (2 years and 6 months of daily use). The large can is still pretty snappy and is running on the original batteries. Update 4/26/2014 The original batteries on the large trash can died this week. 2 years and 10 months of daily use. This is much better than I expected. Update 5/5/2023. Still using both trash can, have not had to change batteries too many times. Came to look at this review to remind myself what batteries the small can takes :-) It has been so long that I forgot, it still kinda works so I wanted to have the batteries on hand before I removed the old ones.

Customer service is as terrible as the product!
Absolutely junk, it worked for 5 days, the sad part is I bought one 15 years ago and it worked flawlessly and after 15 years it was still functional however it was slow and bent and beat up and just time for a new one, so I bought the same brand and same model.. The worst part is their two year warranty, I called about it and she said send my name address and pictures of the can which I did, then another lady responded to the email asking for so much other information and video evidence and this and that, it just really turned me off, they clearly do not stand behind their products and they make it a hassle to exchange them under warranty

What's not to like?
I had the large trashcan (previously bought elsewhere at a warehouse store) and I've used it for almost four years. I wanted a smaller one for my bathroom because we just can't seem to get anything in the trash can these days. Found this set and am I ever pleased! It's the exact trash can I already have and the price is great! If you have ever been to someone's house and they have those plastic trash cans that always look dirty and smell, this will solve that issue. They are very easy to clean and they work wonderfully. I don't know what the deal is about the review of the smaller can - works great for me. I love the fact that I don't have to push a foot pedal or open a trash can manually - such a help when you're hands are full! When I go into a house without a touchless can, I really hate it and it just reinforces how much I love these. The grandkids love to use them too and it helps to promote throwing things away. Great for containing smells, easy to clean, looks good. Batteries actually last quite a long time. Definetly a value - our warehouse store has another brand and it's over $20 more for the set. With Amazon prime and no shipping charges - this purchase to me was a no brainer! Oh and the older can I have is being delegated out to the garage for my husband. No more greasy hands on the trash can lid!

This combo set includes two trash cans, a 13-gallon (50L) oval can for the kitchen and a 2-gallon (8L) rectangular can for the bathroom, both featuring an innovative touchless infrared motion sensor. One of the standout features of this combo set is the touchless sensor technology. The stainless steel surface is resistant to fingerprints and smudges, keeping the trash cans looking clean and polished with minimal effort. The 13-gallon oval trash can is perfect for the kitchen, providing ample capacity for household waste. It has a wide opening that easily accommodates larger items, and the lid closes silently and smoothly, preventing any unwanted odors from escaping. The 2-gallon rectangular trash can is an ideal size for the bathroom or small spaces, and its compact design fits neatly against the wall or under the sink. Additionally, both trash cans come with a removable inner bucket for easy cleaning and waste disposal.
