Unexpectedly robust
Despite the mixed reviews, I found this to be substantial bit of kit. I have only used it on a 520 chain, which it handled easily, but with the different sized anvils and push pins I would be confident in tackling a heavier chain with it.The instructions only describe which parts to use for breaking and riveting but no great detail how to actually use them, and the press-plate is difficult to keep lined up over the link plate pins before they are pushed proud, so for that reason I only gave 4 stars for ease of use.The pins fit inside the larger threaded bar and seat onto a spring. They are then wound down with a smaller fine threaded insert. You need to position the breaker pin with only a millimetre or so protruding, and then wind the entire assembly down to contact the ground off link pin. You then wind down the smaller fine treaded bar to push the breaker pin through the link. Once the link pin is being pushed from the chain, the breaker pin follows it through and is kept straight by the chain. As long as you use the correct size breaker pin, don't have loads of it poking out before too start and grind off the link pin head, then you should have no trouble. The rivet tool is equally robust. I managed to split the hollow rivet wide open and break it by applying too much pressure. That was my fault and not the tool, but I mention this to demonstrate how surprisingly strong this is.The same kit is available from other sellers at varying higher prices, so if you need a chain breaker/riveter then you may as well get this one as its the lowest price you will find it for.All in all, this could only be improved with slightly more detailed instructions and perhaps a lock for the press plate to keep it lined up with the link plate pins as they push through. Two minor points, and certainly not enough to make me unhappy with this kit.

Works perfectly if you read the instructions and watch a few youtube videos.
Didn't hold out much hope for this as it's cheap and some bad reviews. Yes the steel isn't the best quality but if used correctly it should work perfectly well for home/diy use.If you try to push out a rivet without first grinding the head off you're asking for trouble straight away. Anything other than a bicycle chain needs the rivets grinding first. The plastic box it came in isn't fantastic either but the overall product and price make it worth it.

Broke on first use
The main tool looks and feels sturdy enough, but the attachments break and dent on very first use. Rivetting pin broke in half so I had to improvise and use a different attachment that also broke sending a piece to the other side of the garage! It is definitely not durable, robust and sturdy, it is a waste of money, and it's also odd seeing five ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews from people that supposedly used this product; there is no way someone actually tried to use this and didn't notice the poor quality

As a riveter, works well, but you'll need spanners!
First chain I've had to rivet, so came in completely new. First few times I tried flaring the pins, I didn't seem to get anywhere (525 chain). I significantly underestimated the amount of effort required! For smaller chains you'd probably get away with the little handle, but for bigger ones it's not worth the effort trying. You WILL need 14mm spanners (I tightened up the "alignment" screw, then using two 14mm spanners spaced about 30 degrees apart, I turned the outermost pin screw that pushes the riveter/cutting pin using hand grip to push against each spanner. Had to take the tool off a few times due to not knowing what size the rivets had got to, and eventually got to the required size.Seems a solid tool, with the required anvils and supporting guides for the smaller pin, and storage for everything in the blow moulded box. Just for storage I sprayed everything with maintenance spray to help prevent any rusting.

YouTube and a £30 grinder
Very easy tool to use. If you have never used one before maybe watch some YouTube clips before racing to leave a poor review. You will need a small grinder a useful garage tool for less then £30 alongside this chain tool.Do remember workshop chain splitter/riveter would be £150-£180 so this tool for £15 is the home mechanics tool. But with Basic experience, this is a very useable tool and served me very well, I am delighted.

Not Bad For The Money
This handled breaking a 520 endless chain no problem at all. I did grind the rivet down prior to breaking, and the tool worked perfectly. Made sure to set the pin as close to the C-clamp as possible to ensure there was no flex in the pin. I imagine a lot of people have snapped the pin as they've either not ground the rivet down, or set the pin way top far out.The pressing of the new link was tricky as the front plate with holes in has the tendency to move, and also set one side of the link slightly further than the other side. What I found best was to just use the rear plate and individually set both sides of the plate with just the bolt. This actually worked really well, albeit a work around. Also, the 520 anvil was slight too deep. So when flaring the pins it would actually begin to crush the link making the chain stiff. Another work around for this was to just put a shallow recessed bolt where the anvil would be, which allowed all pressure to go through the pin. Again, another bush fix that worked. The flaring pin worked fine, you'd be better off with a spanner or socket for winding down as you cannot get much leverage on the supplied handle. The tool handle was also quite thin which made it awkward to hold.Apart from those issues, it did perform well structurally. Just need to work around the kinks. But for the price, can't really moan too much.
