My medium sized dog is sweet but reactive, she also likes to chew. She chewed through a couple nylon leashes so I began a search for a chew proof leash. I found a similar item from another company, but it didn't have the moveable grip and the plastic covering quickly developed chips. I then bought a chain link leash with woven rope, but it was kind of heavy, uncomfortable for me and my dog. I bought this because of the moveable grip and it has been, by far, the best leash I have used with Layla. It is lightweight, the coating has a smooth comfortable feel and the grip gives me much better control when Layla spots a squirrel or bird. This cost less than the other plastic covered leash, is far more suitable and is my leash of choice, no cracks in the plastic after several months.

I like how this is light and thin but seems sturdy enough for my dog who is a puller. Obviously if you have a huge strong dog, this may not be suitable for you. I have a medium sized breed so the durability level seems good for mine. The only issue I have this is the there is a soft cushion part in the leash itself where you can use to control your dog a little more. You can adjust it closer towarss your dogs harness to have more control on the leash. But mine seems to move all the way back to where the handle is after I move it downwards which is useless as I can just use it by the handle length itself then or just wrap the leash around my hands to control my dog. Other than that, seems to be holding up well. As for it being chew proof, my dog doesn’t chew on his leashes. I’m sure if they chewed in it, it will tear just like any other leash. There is no such thing as chew proof unless you or your dog have no teeth. Everything breaks and tears if you chew, cut or rip through it.

We have a 3 month old Anatolian Shepherd puppy that absolutely loves chewing regular leash material. Once we realized resistance was futile, that material was relegated to the toy pile. With this leash, we can be sure that even if she decided to chew through the protective cover, the wire will still be there to keep hold.First caveat, we really love the foam slider that you use to get a better grip on the leash itself. Obviously, a comfy foam slider is not chew-proof. It's pretty hard to balance that part (squishy/comfy and durable), so that's not a knock, but a warning to be careful with where the slider is so your pup doesn't get to it. That said, the slider is really perfect - squishy enough to be comfortable and grabby enough to prevent the leash from slipping through while you're gripping.Second caveat, the handle, while also extremely comfortable to hold, is just fabric/foam. We wish that the wire ran through the middle of all that so even if the dog managed to mangle the handle, the wire is still there to not be chewed.Long story short - it's a great leash and even if the pup chews through the handle or slider... we'd probably get another one.Go ahead and buy this leash.

Update: yes, the foam part is not supposed to be chew proof so I updated my rating. Also, Vivaglory reached out to me on their own and sent me a replacement. 5 stars for customer service. Now that I know what the foam part is for, I can tell you that this leash is great! The nylon leash we were using was always hard on my left hand because it’s so wide. Holding the foam grip on this leash is much better for my arthritic hands. Excellent product and excellent customer service.- - - - - -1 day in with this leash and the 5-month old puppy chewed up the foam grip. Not sure what it’s for, but that is definitely not chew proof. The pup also chewed up the wire leash. Damage is visible, but he was unsuccessful at destroying the plastic coating over the metal wire. I will update if he is successful at destroying the plastic coating.
