Dubbed in English for your Pleasure...
This is a great movie - the action is non-stop and it is hilarious no matter how many times you watch it. I have been searching for a DVD that has English dubbing, but could not get a definitive answer on anything but the VHS version. I just wanted to clearly state that the "Axe-Kickin Edition" DVD does in fact have English (and French) dubbing. FYI - you must turn off the subtitles before you can activate the dubbed version(s). Yeah, it took me awhile to figure that out! LOL Anyway, it appears that many people want the dubbed version of this film, and I just wanted to let you know that this version has it. So there :)

Pure silliness. Chinese Monty Python.
I was an Asian movie virgin. Soon after we met, my future husband told me this was a favorite and a typical serious martial arts movie, and since I had no idea what to expect and I wanted to take his respect for this seriously, I was pretty thoroughly confused by it. I was trying to figure out what I was watching during the whole movie. Was it a ultra low budget mishmash of multiple prior films with new dialog- since the dialog didn't match the video at all? Was I so unsophisticated that I was unable to comprehend Asian film? I didn't know yet that he was a straight faced trickster- but he didn't laugh once! It turned out that he thought my martial arts movie nativity and gullible consternation was hilarious and he was playing a practical joke on me. Afterward I looked the movie up online and found out that it's SUPPOSED to be silly. This isn't a typical martial arts movie. At all.So now, years later I understand his sense of humor and we both love it and play it for family and friends who can tell that it's a comedy.

incorrect information
the movie info claimed it was dubbed over = English voice over. the trailer was in English, so I rented it " BUT " ! the movie is in Chinese !!! I tried to cancel and get a refund " BUT " all of the video refund info said no way !! this movie is worthless. it would be nice if Amazon had "LANGUAGE OPTIONS " available. the $$$ money I lost paid for my class in the University of Hard Knocks !!! ;-P

Its all about the Amusement
Can I say, THIS IS MY FAVORITE KUNG FU MOVIE OF ALL TIME!Really...LOL. It just pays homage to the feeling of wanting them to be a SUPERHERO. These incredible fight scenes. Bad guys, Good Guys. Is that guy supposed to be a bad guy?We all wish something would change our lives and turn us into superheroes. We all love the wacky flying and moves and hidden weapons of Kung Fu movie genres. This is so amusing. Watch it and see.No, no one has actual movies like Bruce Lee, Jet Li, or even Jackie Chan. They do have old masters though...guys who in their day could do the same moves those first 3 i named could. These guys are just lesser known. If you found this review helpful..please click yes at the bottom of this review..Thank You.

Great version with multiple languages available
Some how this movie has become a Thanksgiving and Christmas tradition. Caught it on the TV one year and we were hooked. Recently, it seems, the networks are only showing the original version with subtitles. I was happy to find this version on Amazon and within the disc's features there is an option for the English dubbed version. Of course the words don't always meet the movements of the actors lips, but what can you honestly expect? We love this and will continue to watch every year.

one of the best kung fu movies
I've scene this film several times. The only drawback to this film is the subtitles, but it's a kung fu movie so that goes with the territory.Otherwise, this film is excellent! It's very funny. The action is great. The bad guys are cool. The action scenes are a blast and each one is unique. The underdog aspect is exciting and there is a romantic sub-plot also good.

Such a great experience!
This movie is one of the best martial arts movies I have ever seen. The reason it is so exemplary is because of the inverted themes with the hero of the story. The protagonist isn't heroic or humble or kind or even competent, he's a street thief who's trying to get into the violent and ruthless axe gang.We find out that he tried to be a hero and wanted to be one as a child, spent his life savings on an ancient manual and attempted to defend a girl against bullies. He was beaten down and humiliated, everything he knew crushed, and then was show kindness by the person he was trying to protect, making him weaker than she was, in his mind. Rejecting his nature, he became what he previously hated, what he previously wanted to destroy. The main focus of the story is him, but also the town-village and how they all relate to the axe gang. The plot of this follows typical martial arts plots, paying favors to the martial arts cinema heroes of older martial arts films and the escalating and stylish battles there-in. All the fighting is beautiful and while it tends to be referenced to other works, it still completely owns them and makes them their own.It is in the final fight of the village and the axe gang that we see just who the protagonist truly is. It is in that powerful moment that this movie is something more than generic, something better than traditional, and something closer to magical. The way he changes, his final acts in that scenes, and the conclusion of the girl he tried to save so long ago and the fate he reject so long ago, end up in a cathartic moment rarely rivaled in any other cinema, let alone kung-fu movies.

Crazy, zany and a visual treat
Kung Fu Hustle is such a thrilling and hilarious film to watch. It feels like a parody of a mythic hero story, with the main protagonist, Sing, a hopeless, selfish lowlife ultimately discovering he is a kung fu genius (character played by the writer/director Stephen Chow). One of the most wonderful aspects of the film for me is the setting in 1940s Shanghai - leading to the villains sporting suitably cheesy American gangster stylings of film noir, as well as indulging in glorious dance/musical routines - and the characters who live in the housing complex that is trying to survive against the corruption. Perhaps some of the cartoonish characterisations will cause offence (for example, a very femme, camp gay haberdasher is 'revealed' to actually be a secret kung fu master - obviously causing him to lose all his campness), but the charm of the film really wins me over, and I watch it every few years, as I know I'll love it each and every time.I'd really recommend this - especially to people who've never seen a Chinese-made film, as it really is a wonderful adventure/action/absurdist comedy gem.

A funny, off-beat film, filled with casual comedy violence and stylish gangsters. Recommended.
What a funny, off-beat film, filled with casual comedy violence and stylish gangsters. If you are a fantasy martial arts fan this will appeal. This film also has some of the closed in feel of the film "Delicatessen", being set (mainly) in a small block flats with the locals providing all the colour.By way of a guide - Crouching Tiger (and all others in that genre) - I love, Jackie Chan (anything) - I love.

Forget the Panda... This is Fun-Fu.
A glorious parody of the Chinese fantasy style of kung-fu movies that is a joy to watch and (thanks to its magnificent uncompressed LPCM 5.1) a sonic treat for your home cinema. The story is pretty basic stuff for the genre but the style veers from musical to cartoonish as comedy violence is mixed with popular kung-fu tropes. It's chaotic and irreverent but it works well and the film flies by, punctuated by laugh-out loud sequences. @micbinbag

Unmissable !
To be totally honest i'm not a massive martial arts film fan as they always look so staged and awkward with really cheesy, badly dubbed dialogue and pretty terrible wire fight scenes, but i found myself accidentally watching this film late in the night and being totally drawn in from start to finish. The real test of how good this film really is the fact i watched it in cantonese with english subtitles which is pretty much no go for me - but as others have said it's worth watching in the original language with subtitles as the humour really shines through with the superb acting. There is just not a single moment in the film i didn't enjoy - the fight scenes are just incredible considering the age of the special effects. The humour is just perfect and had me laughing plenty of times. The violence is edgy but not gory. The love interest had me close to tears, even if it was a little cheesy. What can say, i regularly drift off from films these days through boredom half way through but not with this.Quite simply one of the best, most enjoyable films i've ever seen and totally unmissable ! - Trust me give it a go :)

Kung Fu movie with little touch of poesy!
Some of Stephen Chow's films come out of the usual niches of martial art movies. And if we have to mention a summit like this, it's Kung Fu Hustle!Surreal and poetic with a touch of zen cartoon!Blu-ray offers a rich color image and a choice of languages almost as rich. An All Zone edition to discover this totally crazy movie.
