Product Description Sex Pistols the first punk rockas? Feggedaboudit! Punk is as American as the Ramones, formed in Forest Hills, New York, in 1974. They were on their third LP when the Pistols debuted. Keying off their '60s U.S. pop and garage-band influences while sneering at the bloated state of '70s rock, Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy virtually invented the loud 'n' snotty punk style and 'tude, playing in Bowery dives like CBGB. The band scored a deal with Sire Records and soon conquered the world, but on their own terms. By their 2,263rd, and final, concert in August 1996, the Ramones had outsmarted and outlasted most of their critics-and inspired countless followers. Now the godfathers of punk take a rocket to Rhino on this two-CD career-spanning collection. Produced with the band's cooperation, Hey! Ho! Let's Go! contains nearly 60 hard 'n' fast tracks from 14 albums, from 1976's Ramones to 1995's Adios Amigos-that's more than two-and-a-half hours of peak-volume punk. Also includes a hardback book gathering rare photos and memorabilia, along with extensive liner notes. .com Like most true originals, the Ramones embodied a dizzying array of contradictions. As punk godfathers, they became the archetype for a rebellious musical ethos that could often confuse the baby for the bath water, yet at heart they were 1960s pop- and bubblegum-worshipping reactionaries. The seeming unity symbolized by their street-hood uniform (ripped jeans, deck shoes, and black leather jackets) and name (nicked from an early nom de plume of Beatle Paul) belied turmoil both personal and personnel. And the dumber-than-dumb stance of the likes of "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue," "Cretin Hop," and "Teenage Lobotomy" actually masked some of the shrewdest rock ever recorded. If Rhino/Warner Archive's two-disc anthology seems like hardly enough room to document a band with a quarter-century legacy, it's good to remember that the Ramones prided themselves on stripping every song they attempted to its elemental core, then halving it again with their patented buzzsaw, double-stop tempo. Journalist David Fricke's enclosed history is telling, if ironically packaged in a glossy hard-back edition that seems more befitting the likes of Fleetwood Mac. The nearly five dozen tracks here, reaching from the early '70s to the late '90s, stand remarkably outside of time--just like true originals. --Jerry McCulley

It's this good and it's true
Honestly, I was a little worried when I bought this that it was too good to be true, but it's f***ing fantastic. All my CDs are for my car, and warning: these CDs may cause speeding. But I've gone two years at least, owning many CDs, and barely being able to play anything besides The Slow Poisoner (except Best of the Doors, Waiting for the Sun (The Doors), and Bodies by AFI) until these CDs came along. Now I can't take the Ramones out of my stereo. Great variety and also great order of songs.

58 Songs! High energy, can't sit still, fun music!🤪
SOOO HAPPY with this purchase! It took a while to arrive, (from U.K.) but well worth the wait! 58 songs! So many great ones. WHY weren't more of these songs ever played on the radio?! I have NEW favorite songs! Too bad these guys are gone. These two discs are great listening in the car... Never fail to cheer me! And "She talks to rainbows" talks to ME!! 😍

God bless the Ramones for saving Rock N Roll !!!!
So my new nephew (my brother's stepson..) was talking to me about the music he likes... When I mentioned that there are some bands that.. literally... changed my life, I mentioned the Ramones... He looked me in the eyes and (no lie..) and said "Who are the Ramones??" (WHAT ?!?!??!) ... I looked over at his Mom and said "What are they teaching our kids in school these days?!?!" .... So I just KNEW I had to find a great CD to give him so he could be enlightened!! ...and this is it!!!IF you only own one CD by this band, then get THIS ONE!! 57 songs (..but only a handful over 2 1/2 minutes) that launched THOUSANDS of other bands and even made ME want to pick up an instrument, form a band and play... GREAT overall view of an American original , encompassing their 22 years together... Too many highlights on this collection to list (57 SONGS remember?)No one was like them before.. and no one can ever take their place!!

Almost perfect Ramones collection
Replace Surfin' Bird (stupid and repetitive since the original version back in the 60's), Endless Vacation (obnoxious) and Somebody Put Something in My Drink (filler) with We're a Happy Family, Outsider and the Ramones' cover of Baby I Love You (originally by The Roxettes) and you'll have the best of The Ramones you could ask for in a 58 song collection. Buy this along with Loud, Fast Ramones and you'll have all the best of The Ramones excluding BILY. Definitely a 5 star collection.

In touch
These guys are in touch with a whole generation of young people surviving early adulthood. "I wanna be sedated" a song from 1975 was as poinant a piece in the 90s as it was when written. In fact, if you check you'll find National Public Radio established a few years ago it was one of the top 100 most influential songs in American music of the 20th century. To me, the Ramones are to the late 70's what the "Who" were to the late 1960's. Just awesome... "Tommy can you hear me?... Yes, and I wanna be sedated!"

A good start
To the devoted Ramones fan this set probally is not anything new but for the person just getting into the Ramones this is a great place to start. I have been a Ramones fan since 1979 and like this set for the simple reason that it is a lot of Ramones on just two disc that I can stick in my CD player in my car and let it blast!I am glad to see a box set finally and hope to see one that includes more rare finds and b sides. Maybe if enough people buy this set someone will realize that they should do another more in depth one. We can only hope...

"Just four chords and one manic tempo"
My favourite description of the Ramones comes from Ira Robbins and Scott Isler of Trouser Press:"With just four chords and one manic tempo, New York's Ramones blasted open the clogged arteries of mid-'70s rock, reanimating the music. Their genius was to recapture the short/simple aesthetic from which pop had strayed, adding a caustic sense of trash-culture humor and minimalist rhythm guitar sound."The Ramones didn't have many big hits, but they were one of the most influential bands of the 1970s and arguably the founders of punk. They specialised in short, punchy songs with outrageous titles and darkly humorous lyrics, all performed at breakneck speed. Examples: My Brain is Hanging Upside Down, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Teenage Lobotomy and Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment. Many of their songs are a little bit samey - it's not always easy to distinguish between Judy is a Punk and Sheena is a Punk Rocker. But that's nitpicking. Some of their songs are outstanding. I love Pet Sematary and Garden of Serenity grows and grows. Their version of Baby I Love You rescues a banal ditty from the syrup and gives it some guts. This compilation gives you 57 songs with not a single bad one. Terrific value. I'm still playing it regularly a year after purchasing it and liking it more and more with the passage of time.

Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment !
Says it all ! Give yourself some Shock Treatment with this and then some Psycho Therapy, perhaps Sniff some Glue.. and then I Wanna Be Sedated. Gabba Gabba Hey - you can't do without this CD ! Everyone should be able to get this on the NHS - It is so much fun and will make you smile however you feel. Keeps you boppin' away.First CD is of course vintage and classic Ramones - all the hits and don't they just keep coming ! No let up at all.Second CD doesn't seem to have gone as well with some of these reviewers - but it still has some brilliant tracks like - Too Tough To Die (I'm a t-t-t-t-t-t-t-tough guy etc) and Somebody Put Something In My Drink - both of which I'd never heard before but both are as good as anything on the first CD.Give your ears the treat they deserve. Don't be a Pinhead No More!Lobby your MP to have this put in elevators and airports and on telephone answer machines everywhere. My only regret is that I didn't see them when they came over to UK and toured with the Undertones oh so many years ago!RIP lads.

Sheer Class
The best anthology of a band's music available at the moment. I've been a Ramones fan for over thirty years and still can't get enough. These discs are ideal for a party or just chilling out, as they contain all the classics and the later songs. What is interesting that you can listen to the evolution of their music in one evening. From the fast and furious beginnings, through the pop period, the return to grace and the more mature rock years. All in all a fine tribute to the "founding fathers of punk rock" and at 4 quid a true bargain.

MIxed Bag
The first disc is full of raw energy and powerful, the second disc, less exciting over produced and often sounds like an ordinary guitar band.
