I loved it then and I loved it upon rereading it
Well, having just seen Snow Geese pass through my area for my very first viewing of them ever, it led to me recalling having read this story when I was much younger. I loved it then and I loved it upon rereading it, though certainly had a different perspective, especially regarding the events at Dunkirk. This is a classic that should go on and on and on - so many themes wrapped up in a moving story.

It is a powerful story of ordinary people in extra ordinary times who rose above their circumstances to accomplish great things. Neither men or women will finish with a dry eye.

I have always loved this story - it is a beautiful and haunting tale and has been with me since I first read it many years ago. I was disappointed in the format - it looks a bit like a colouring book - Since then I have received a copy of the original 1940 printing (small size hard cover) which I prefer but the story is still the same great work it was back then so my only quibble is the format of the book.

Paul Gallic at his best, and was always wonderful.
As old as this book is, I defy anyone not to cry about this story. But you will love it nevertheless.

Classic, moving, powerful
I have read this book over and over since childhood. I remember World War II and the escape from Dunkirk: Mrs Miniver (the movie) offered a memorable glimpse at it. It is poignant, charming, and -- somehow -- reaches into one's soul.

A very sad..
A very sad ....keep a box of tissues handy.....but the best written story that I have ever read. If you have seen or will see the movie Dunkirk, this is a must read story. It is a simple story but so well written! It is a great gift for any girl or woman in anyone's life! When I gift it, I include the box of tissues the reader will need.

Ageless wonderful short story
My favorite short story. Saw the Hallmark-made movie with Richard Harris on TV in about 1973. (Author or family prohibited a remake of the movie but you can still watch free on YouTube in five segments.) I found hardback in about 1975 and read it every couple of years. Heart breaking and warming at the same time. Have given as gift many, many times.

Pamphlet style
This is published as a sort of A4 pamphlet instead of a book, it also had some typos in it. I was quite disappointed by both these things. But for some people a thin A4 book this would be preferable 😀

Great for children to learn about the 2nd world war
Great for children to learn about the 2nd world war. Easy for them . For older one's reflective and a bit sad.
