This is a replacement for a similar tripod grill that I purchased at a sporting goods stove around 30 years ago. I lent it out and the grill chains got lost on the camping trip. Rather than repair it I bought this one as here are several features to this one that I like. Pros: I like that the legs are broken down into shock corded lengths that make it easy to fold up into a 18 inch package. My old legs were two piece and friction fitted. They would fall apart when trying to move the tripod. This grill can be picked up and moved out over the fire without a problem. I like that the legs have spring loaded fittings that allow you to unsnap the legs from the center pole support. The old grill had caps on the legs and required sliding them off of the center support. The legs spread out plenty enough to encompass a large fire ring at the campsite. I didn't measure the maximum distance but would estimate it at 3 feet or better. The expanse seems larger than my old grill. Cons: One small problem. Since the grill is suspended from a center chain and there is space between it and the legs it moves around while trying to turn over items on the grill. One solution we used was a cheap pair of welders gloves to hold the edge of the grill while turning food. Oven mitts would work but might not reach up high enough on the arm depending on how large the fire is. Also depending on where it is located the adjuster can get hot if it is out over the fire. Usage: This model uses the same basic main chain from an adjuster on one leg over and through the center support and down to a hook that holds the grill assembly. Three chains attached to the grill meet at a common point to attach to the main chain hook. Sliding the adjuster up and down the leg allows the grill height to be adjusted up and down as the flames in the fire change. I used it cooking for 5 adults at our campsite. Being able to adjust for the fire height, allowed rapid controlled cooking of our food.

My girlfriend bought a Solo Stove for camping, but we always plan our meals around cooking over a fire, and we refused to spend hundreds of dollars on the Solo Stove cooking attachment. After a looking at several options I decided to take a flyer on this cheap solution; thinking if it didn't work, it was cheap enough to toss and try something else. We are blown away how well this worked! No, it doesn't come with a bag. Yes, I wish it did. But it never said that it does so I can't reduce the stars for not providing something that wasn't promised. It's super lightweight, set up is a breeze, and it worked perfectly to cook beer brats (not shown) and a cast iron pizza. Adjusting the height isn't super fluid while cooking, but it absolutely locks into position once set and there was no fear of it falling or slipping even with a 10" cast iron skillet on the grate. There will be a ton of soot on the legs and grate when you tear it down, so be prepared. We simply waited until it was cool, collapsed the legs, and placed it in a trash bag for transport. We'll be using this for every meal, during every trip, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a way to do campfire cooking when a grate isn't available.
