This is very specialized, so you might not be familiar with this application. I use Williams Sound simultaneous interpretation equipment. I need a mixer with XLR connectors to feed audio into the interpreters' consoles. How reliable is this mixer?

hi, these mixers are great, tanks, they have only one xlr output, 4 xlr inputs plus a 5th (rca input) and one rca output, i recommend them !!! if your looking for a 14 channel mixer i suggest the 1402 from mackie

Would this mixer help reduce noise floor? I currently use rode podmic, triton fethead and Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen

Don't know that it would. Do you not have enough gain going into the Scarlett? Too much gain can cause noise too.

Can I collect audio from 8 different microphones inside a room?

I am not sure what you mean by "collect" audio. But this can mix 8 different sources, mic and/or line level and output that to a single, mono output.

Can this be used for a mic preamp to my main mixer?

Since the SCM268 has both line level and mic level outputs, you can plug its output into either of these two input types in your main mixer. Be sure to set the MIC/LINE OUT switch on the back of the SCM268 to the right level. Mine came with the switch set to line level. The SoundEthics answer says the same thing.
