Winsome Wood Bailey Shelving, Black

Let me start by saying I thoroughly love the look of this product. It looks great leaning against my wall and I am happy I purchased this, I think?! I am a little conflicted with my loving the look to the overall quality of the product. The unit was super easy to put together. That is even though the directions were somewhat too simple. It took a little guess work, and I guess common sense to ensure that mutliple identical looking pieces were in the right spot. Once you figure that out its a joy to put together. After placing it on the wall, I noticed the shelves were not level, so I attempted to gently slide this unit up to achieve the desired level shelves. Well the moment I moved this thing I saw a black mark on my wall. Now, to clarify I did not slide this thing hard by no shape form or fashion. It wasn't leaning for more than two minutes when I decided to move, but low and behold it left a black mark on my wall. After moving to the right angle noticed that there is no way to make the shelves 100% level, which isn't too bad because they are probably about 80 to 85 degrees, so nothing is going to slide or move. I placed all my figurines and pictures on this unit and I love the look. I am just slightly upset about the black mark and the fact the shelves aren't completely level.

Update: This shelf has held up great over the past 5 years, however I did recently try to move it (which I never had before) and come to find out it had stuck to the paint on the wall from the top portion that leans again the wall and ripped the pain clean off! I have other things leaning against the walls that haven't done that so I'm not sure why the shelf would, it is heavier so maybe that's why. Needless to say that the shelf is not being relocated until we decided to repaint and then I'll be sure to place something as a barrier between the shelf and the wall.This shelf looks beautiful in our living room and we've received a ton of compliments on it being so much more interesting then a regular shelf. Only problem was after being in the same place for a few years I tried to move it and the top where it leans against the wall pulled off a strip of paint, easy fix is just to place a barrier between the two which I will do when we repaint... for now I just put it back in the exact same place so nobody can tell the paint is missing. =)

I wanted a leaning bookshelf, and did a little research on various ones. I chose this one, over the cheapest one on Amazon (I think around $45) because a couple of reviewers said that it was sturdy enough to hold a lot of books, and that is what I wanted to use it for. Overall, I am happy with it. I just have a few comments about the piece, itself for people who are a little hesitant to buy furniture online.It is easy to put together. It comes in 9 pieces (5 shelves, 2 sides, and a top and bottom). The painted finish seems a little thin on the parts of the shelf you wouldn't see (ie the bottom). The directions have an inventory and assembly section. In the inventory section they clearly show that the top and bottom of he sides are different (top is straight and bottom is angled), but in the assembly directions they look the same. The result is it took me a few minutes to figure out which end I was actually supposed to start on. The shelves are screwed in very securely. It is not just a screw into wood, but there is a metal reinforcement around the hole. BUT the bottom and tops are loose. I ended up putting a few dabs of wood glue on them (which means I can't disassemble this), and letting it cure overnight. It is almost like the holes are too large in the top and bottom or the wood dowels are too short. The upper shelf cannot really hold books, because it is so shallow. You could put paperbacks on it, but they would hang over a little. The bottom shelf is the opposite. It is so deep. I had to rummage through my books to find a couple that I could put on the ends that would not fall out of the sides onto the wall or floor.I have a lot of books, that vary in size and weight, and the shelf handled all of them beautifully. A good alternative to a more expensive version of this shelf. And a smarter design than the cheapest version. The edging around each shelf keeps your books on the shelf, and prevents your wall from getting scratched up each time you add or remove a book.I also had no problems with scratching the wall when I placed it (one reviewer claimed this). Also, the sides are each one long piece of wood not broken in two (another review claimed this).

These shelves are seriously awesome. Exactly what I hoped and expected. Each shelf is pressed composite wood, but the frame that holds the shelves are solid wood. The shelves fit into notches in the frame before being screwed in, so the overall result is a super sturdy shelf.I bought two for either side of my TV and they shipped with no damage to any of the pieces. Don't listen to people saying they are flimsy, or the instructions are too difficult. If you have a good head on your shoulders and can use common sense, it is very easy to put together. About 45 mins from cutting the tape on the box to leaning it on the wall.The ONLY negative aspect I can see is they don't seem to be intended for easy disassembly/reassembly. Once put together, keep them together. If you move, move them as they are.Suggestion: Get rubber grip pads if you have wood floors to make sure that it doesn't slide out and stays where you want it. Also.... these WILL scuff up your wall very easily just from quick contact. Get some kind of small pad to place between the top of the shelf frame and the wall to prevent black marks on your paint.

Very impressed with this! Looks much better in person and more substantial than in the photo. It's packaged very well. There are multiple congregated boxes inside that keep the pieces safe so no damage occurs.The photo makes it look black/brown but its pure black which is what I was hoping for. Assembly was a breeze...IKEA like but with less pieces. It recommends two people for installation. Not necessary in my opinion. I completed it alone in about 20 minutes.This thing is very solid once put together (made of solid wood). Some minor dents here and there but it's wood so you cant hate. Amazing value for the price! Do not hesitate to buy if your looking for a stylish, well-built leaning bookshelf that wont break the bank.

It is very nice and solid. Easy enough to put together, however, they should go the extra step and place a sticker on "A" and "B" poles...just saying. That's the only reason I gave 4 stars. Delivery was fast, a small delay due to the shipping label but still received in a timely manner. A little pricey but I guess this item does go on sale sometimes and there are cheaper ones out there but I'm glad I ordered this one.

After comparing over a dozen of ladder shelves online and in stores, I finally decided to buy this one on Amazon. The product wowed me immediately after I assembled it. To start with, the shelf is sturdy but not too heavy to move. It leans against the wall well without feeling shaky after I put a pile of books and other stuff on it. Second, it is VERY easy to assemble. I'm not a huge handy woman but it took me no time to put the shelf together. Love this product. One of the best purchases I've made on Amazon.

Great shelf, looks sturdy and gorgeous in our living room. Assembly is straightforward, although I wasn't able to do it in 20 minutes like the other reviewer stated.

I couldn't be more happier with this purchase, easy to assembly I had no problems with it.The picture really doesn't do it justice at all. It has a rich look to it and holds a lot of items.For the price it really is extremely good quality. If you are considering purchasing it,I highly recommend it. It arrived fast and was packaged well. I'm very pleased with it.
