This book is a great beginner's guide to Java programming. I've been wanting to take a Java class for a while, but life has gotten in the way. This book has given me a much better start than I would've been able to get on my own. I work in application support, and as our team has started supporting more and more Java apps, it was critical that I gain knowledge in Java to do my job properly. I still a fairly slow at supporting the code we support, but I now have much more confidence that I can dig in and find issues in the code.

I haven't checked out any other Java books, but this one seems to cover all the bases. The only complaint I have is that some of the topics are covered on the book's website instead of in the book. Other than that, I have had an easy time learning a lot of good stuff about Java with this book! I would certainly recommend it to a friend.

I mean I only paid like 5$ lol cover is a little beat up, but the book is all there, and is fairly clean.Shipping kind of sucked thou, USPS is just the worse lol. Thank you thou

I purchased this book as a gift for someone else who said it has been very helpful. This is his first venture in to computer programming. His goal is to write non-game Android apps for cell phones and tablets.

Would have liked some exercises to practice learning Java, not just reading about it.

Bought for my 15 year old son, and he is devouring it and told me very easy to use, he is now looking at applying it, accompanied with the apps version of same genre is looking forward to practising what he has learnt.

Really enjoying Barry Burd's Style of writing and I wish I had bought the book early to accompany my course as he brings humour to what can be a stoic subject :)
