Durable light.
This light got 4 stars initially, the battery consumption wasnt great but its not an LED. I recently bumped it to 5 stars because of durrability. I left it on the trailer of a semi and drove away. The light fell off and the head of the light came off. Battery and handle were still together. Snapped the head back on the handle and its still working! Speed of fall was around 45 mph.

Makita 18v flashlight is bright and Makita is a great tool base.
I like the flashlight: I put the 4.0 Ah Lithium ion battery from my combo kit and it works great. I love my Makita tools. I recommend nothing but the Makita brand batteries for these tools. I bought the driver/drill combo and the impact wrench and use the 4.0Ah batteries without problem and have not yet been disappointed. I have changed many tires, worked on 3 decks and use these tools regularly since March 2020, now it's almost November 2020-I highly recommend Makita LXT 18V. I have only charged the two batteries twice since March 2020. The tools have been sitting in Hot and Cold weather in the pickup too.

Don't buy that more expensive one!
Like everyone else we as a whole tend to buy the higher priced item...even if they are identical thinking it MUST be better. DON'T DO IT, this light can't be any better....well made, bright and a great price!!!

Basic light
The light is not LED, which I knew. It is yellowish light. I don’t know the lumens but it isn’t extremely bright. I would say it compares to a two d cell flashlight. It didn’t come with a strap but there is a loop for a strap. Strap may come handy if you wanted to hang the light. The light came sealed in a clear plastic bag. No box, no documents, no warranty card or user manual. Not that one needs a user guide to use it. But, it would not be impressive gift item. I’m sure it will be ok functionality wise. The price is reflected in what you get here. Old saying comes to mind; “the drink is only as sweet as the amount of sugar you add”, meaning if I had purchased the $50 LED makita light, I probably would have been more pleased. In short, this is a functional basic light.

Very durable.
I ordered this particular one because we use these at work and they are VERY durable.I have seen these go through the wringer,Dropped, kicked around,Etc.The head unit might fall off but in every case I have seen the worst that happens is you snap it back into place and change the bulb and it`s good to go.I have had mine at work for at least 8 years and it has been abused pretty bad but I`m still using the same one.4 bulbs later.

Served My Purposes, But Probably Not Yours
Most people who want a decent flashlight that fits in with their Makita system will be much better served by the DML815 LED model. It's basically better in every possible way, and costs a buck or two less to boot. This DML185 one (Confusingly similar model number) in comparison, is big, clunky, and not very bright at all. It's also not very energy-efficient, which is actually the reason I got it. If you're picky (some might say 'nutty') about battery maintenance, there are reasons you might want to drain some of the power out of your battery at certain times, and with battery-tool systems the flashlight is often the most convenient way to do this. My other flashlight was taking way too long for this particular use, but this one fits the bill nicely. It drains the power out of a battery 3 times quicker! Which, of course, is another reason this probably isn't the best choice for most people.
