Serial killer, mysterious magic, romance and deception all rolled into one
Split Second certainly will give you much to think about. FBI agent Savich is on his way home and stops to buy a few items at the Shop N Go market in his neighborhood. But he stumbles on a 'robbery' that is going wrong. Savich steps in and in a Split Second people's lives are changed. Some are wounded, some are killed and some are emotionally traumatized. Even further the tragedy reaches out to others beyond those first involved. With this set-up Coulter is going to take us on a ride that will keep us guessing on several fronts as to who the real criminals are and who the real hero's are. The FBI is going to be brought in on what appears to be a serial killer case that is reaching nationwide now, it had previously just been in San Francisco. Agents Savich and Sherlock are well known to us and will risk everything to bring the killer to justice. But enter now two more agents, Cooper McKnight and Lucy Carlyle. These two are part of Savich's team and have just recently been paired up together. Coulter does a wonderful job of developing their characters and their relationship. The novel does seem to revolve mostly around them.Lucy Carlyle will face a devastating personal issue during the search for the serial killer. Her father dies of a heart attack (at a fairly young age) and joins her mother (who died when she was a little girl) and her grandmother in death. Her grandfather has been out of the picture for 22 years. He left the family and disappeared, or did he? Lucy's grief will only deepen as she discovers the reality of what happened with her grandfather. Then enter the family heirloom, a ring that has mysterious powers. How will Lucy handle the ownership of this ring and it's powers? Why will someone try to kill her to get the ring? Who is that someone and how did they know about the ring? All this intrigue and it is the back story not the main story.Back to the main story. Our serial killer is going to turn out to have a family connection to a famous criminal. This connection is what is driving the killer to act. The new information will amaze the FBI, and others, and also bring tension and intrigue to the whole search for the serial killer.Eventually Savich and Sherlock's lives will be on the line as they try to apprehend the killer. Lucy will step in with her 'magic' ring and change the course of the case. Coop will fall in love with Lucy, or is he just infatuated with her? Lucy will wonder about her parents, her grandparents and her extended family and what tie they have to criminal activities.Oh, and during this whole ordeal we will have the backstory of the people from the first robbery that Savich broke up. Was it really a robbery or was it a "hit for hire?"There is enough action to keep anyone turning the pages (or clicking next on your Kindle) for hours on end. You will be drawn into the story and not want to set the book done. The action here is much more believable and much more entertaining than any television show you might watch. Coulter does a fabulous job in this her newest novel.Enjoy!

Another great story by a great writer
I decided to read a book from a series that I haven’t read in a while and it honestly is like meeting up with dear friends I haven’t seen in a while. What a welcome surprise! Split Second by Catherine Coulter is actually the 15th book in the FBI series, but I read the others before I started blogging and reviewing books.Let me just say if you like murder mysteries and police procedure novels, these are all really, really good. They remind me so much of Criminal Minds and that is a good thing! FBI agent Dillon Savich is a computer whiz and when you add his skills in logic to the logic skills of his wife, FBI Agent Lacey Sherlock no criminal is safe. The stories, though, go much deeper than just the crime fighting. You get to delve into the hearts and minds of so many of the characters in Coulter’s writing. She has a way with words that pulls you in and allows you to connect with Savich and Sherlock, as well as the other agents with whom they work.In Split Second Savich stops a robbery in a convenience store close to his home, but something about the scene feels off to him. Meanwhile, there is a killer on the loose who meets women at bars, takes them home and then garrotes them with wire. All of this at the same time that Agent Lacy Carlyle’s father passed away, with an ominous message just before he died. Bringing all of these stories to full circle takes so much skill in writing and Coulter handles it all with the flourish that is a trademark of her writing. This is a great addition to this series and one that I highly recommend!Catherine Coulter’s FBI Series in order leading up to Split Second:The CoveA (1996)The MazeA (1997)The TargetB (1998)The EdgeB (1999)RiptideC (2000)Hemlock BayC (2001)Eleventh Hour (2002)Blindside (2003)Blowout (2004)Point Blank (2005)Double Take (2007)Tailspin (2008)KnockOut (2009)Whiplash (2010)Split Second (201)Backfire (2012)Bombshell (2013)Power Play (2014)Nemesis (2015)Insidious (2016)Enigma (2017)Omnibus Editions:The Beginning. 2005. Don't blink or it's gone
What a riveting novel. 3 storylines that kept you on the edge of your seat throughout. This was typical Catherine Coulter, with Savich & Sherlock playing their usual extraordinary secondary roles. Great job!

She is an excellent writer with an amazing sense for how her characters ...
This was my first Catherine Coulter book, but it will not be my last. Before I retired, I worked as a contractor supporting the Intelligence Community, including the FBI. Catherine has given this book an aura of authenticity I find in few other books. She is an excellent writer with an amazing sense for how her characters react to each other and the ability to so clearly describe a scene that you feel yourself being drawn in and a part of it. Her plots are amazing. She keeps you on the edge of your mind following the story, trying to figure out the end but you cannot. Her imagination is amazing. Lacy and Dillon are lovable on their own, and together. Since this is part of a series, I will go back to the first and start reading through them all. I love book series where the characters persist. That way you get to love them and watch as they grow together. Highly recommend Split Second.
