Allied Works Architecture book is beautiful and thought inspiring.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would and have shared it with several friends. It gives a complete look of Brad Cloepfil's work.

fantastic 4 an us architect
i must eat crow on my neg view of american architects. first rogers marvul & now brad c.Stumbled onto brad c on amazon & now checked out this book.just amazing delight that he has a style that is replicated in subsequent works but never repetitive. he seems to be morphing his style for the calgary museum which we see as only in model form but hope to find pix of completed work soon.love the houses that he build. limited palette works in pictures. clearly a successor to john pawson`s style.update: the text unfortunately is pretty weak & pretentious. usually i enjoy it when architects try to steal philosopher`s playbook ie give meaning to their work like economists competing w mathematicians but sadly cloepfil`s ramblings are very uninformative.devan s who writes about john pawson`s work is the gold standard.

A beautiful book for fans of architecture, art, and New York City
Finally! Brad Cloepfil's monograph is available. I have long admired Mr. Clopefil's work and have hoped that someday he and his firm would publish a monograph. The wait was worth it. Readers with any sort of familiarity with art/design books will immediate recognize the superior production values of Cloepfil's book. The paper is luscious, the quality of the photographs (many if not most taken especially for this book)exceptional, and the handsome cloth-bound cover make it a "must-display" title. As for the book's contents, well, there is so much here for the serious architecture student as well as for someone not in the industry who simply likes modern design. Or for the modern art enthusiast. I particularly liked the chapters on the Duchess County Guest House (the double-page spreads are incredible--when can I move in?? I can't imagine a bad day in that house!), the Museum of Art and Design in New York, and the Wieden + Kennedy office building in Portland. If you love modern architecture, you should check out this book.

great works/mediocre container
As an architect, I am long a fan of Allied Works works, and I immediately ordered this when I saw if was ready for publication. It is a massive book- probably several pounds and almost coffee-table sized- so get a larger table to place it on. The book feels like a large type version of a smaller book. Everything is larger, but not necessarily better. It is an attractive but common layout and after a while the format is repetitive and the projects bland together. There are interspersed essays from collaborators and muses from the arts and ecology, which help ease the read, and were an interesting way to nuance the larger collection of works. It is not so much that it is a bad book- the work stands by itself as worthy of your collection, but given the nature of the architectural thinking, the book layout is stale and differs from the voice of the work itself. After the cover, less than I had imagined it would be as a thing itself. I wish I could judge this book by it's cover.
