The album itself is amazing unfortunately the quality control of production isn’t as amazing as the album. Lots of scuff marks and scratches on both discs.

マイケル・ジャクソンの意欲作『Dangerous』が発売された1991年11月、21歳の私は右手の甲を複雑骨折し、入院生活を送っていました。世間では宮沢りえさんの写真集が空前の話題を呼んでいた、そんな騒がしい季節のことです。 90年代に入ると、グランジやヒップホップといった新たな潮流が主流となり、さらに『ベストヒットUSA』の放送終了も重なって、私と洋楽の距離は少しずつ開いていました。本作のシングル群は豪華なショート・フィルムと共に耳にしていましたが、当時はアルバムを手にすることはありませんでした。転機は2009年6月25日。山形への出張中、先輩からマイケルの訃報を聞いたのです。私の洋楽への扉を開いた『Thriller』への感謝と追悼を込め、未聴だった作品をCDで一気に購入。その一枚が本作でした。現在は、それらをすべてアナログ盤で所有しています。 初めて聴いた当時の印象は、前作までのクインシー・ジョーンズによる緻密な構築から離れ、より「打ち込みビート」の肉体性が増したというものでした。前半の鋭いニュー・ジャック・スウィングから、後半のバラエティ豊かな展開への流れは、マイケルの新たな「設計図」を感じさせました。 改めて、レコードの針を落としてみました。 最新のモーフィング技術とダンスが圧巻だった「Black Or White」、R&Bの傑作「Remember The Time」。さらに映画『フリー・ウィリー』の主題歌でもあるゴスペル調の「Will You Be There」や、平和への祈りが込められた「Heal the World」。一曲一曲の強度が凄まじく、2枚組という長尺ながら、最後まで一度も集中力を切らすことなく聴き通せます。 レコードを手にして気づいたのですが、『Off The Wall』からの3作はシングル盤で見開きジャケットだったのに対し、本作は2枚組でありながらシンプルなシングル・ジャケット。そんな仕様の違いにも、クインシーと別れ、新たなプロデューサーと組んで挑んだマイケルの「削ぎ落とされた決意」が表れているようです。 巨匠の元を離れ、最先端のビートへと身を投じた挑戦的な一枚。 山形の空の下で知ったあの悲しみから、このアルバムは私にとって、マイケルの「不屈の精神」を象徴する大切な記録となりました。

Great Album. Pressing is very good. Would highly recommend

Wonderful vinyl! Hearing some of the tracks after almost 25 years now. Bernie Grundman has done an amazing job here - all the songs sound fresh and very very good - second reissued vinyl that’s sounding like new after Hendrix’s Rainbow Bridge that I heard. The price has surely gone northwards in the recent times and not readily available either but worth the price paid. Some would say this Jacko’s best ...well certainly up there with his best. Sadly it represented his creative peak and it went downhill from here.
