New Beginning

Loved Tracy Chapman's first two albums and then moved on for whatever reason. Recently, after listening to them again, I decided to purchase "New Beginning" and I'm so glad I did. It has been one of those albums that I just cannot get enough of and I probably have listened to it daily for the last month.

I have always liked Tracy Chapman and bought this cd for just one song I'd heard used in the background of a video. The rest of the songs are nice too but some are very mother-earth-spiritual and environmental...which gives me an interesting sensation of protest along with relaxation. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet! All in all it's a nice collection.

A fantastic and socially conscious musician and song writer. Perfect combo.

While her debut will always be the best in my opinion, this album though would be a close second. "Give me one Reason" became a hit for a reason (it was smooth and probably one of the best blues cut of the 90's). The whole album shouldn't be judged based on that song though. All the songs are really good. I didn't feel the urge to fast forward past some songs to get to the one I like. My favorite song on this album is "New Beginning" which is her most upbeat energetic song. I found myself tapping my feet on a few occasions. Anyway this album is very easy to listen to and it's one of her more consistent albums and I really recommend it. Actually I recommend all her albums except for 2000's "Telling Stories"(the only album of hers I was disappointed with because it seemed like a step-down of her talent). And I give caution about "Matters of the Heart" (While I liked it, I'll admit it takes a while to get into).

Simply put it is one of those records from my childhood that has stood the test of time as essential listening. As soon as I hear the first track Heaven's Here On Earth and the stunning acoustic artistry and that almost slumbering but edgy beautiful voice, you are in the zone of total musical satisfaction. Its only after the third or forth track you start wondering......is the quality going to let up at any point...........common forgettable riff, forgettable chorus where are you?...........and it simply DOES NOT HAPPEN. Every track is brilliant and memorable and soulful. The song writing is Dylan standard. Gold Dust. In terms of the artists vision lyrically Tracy manages to balance what are still almighty social issues in her words with heartfelt honesty, and a folklorish grace that constantly keeps your attention without any detriment to the vibe and excellent production values on show. Balancing both bohemian like trance with a faint whiff of Billy Bragg working class hero, and a touch of Dylan journeyman texture, Chapman really nailed it here. As a whole record I have always preferred it to the fast car album. For me this her masterpiece. Peace.

...Musik um mal die Seele baumeln zu lassen. Tracy Chapman macht Musik, die aufbaut und herausfordert. Ihre Texte sind gehaltvoll, ihre Stimme hat Tiefe :) und diese Platte ist es auf jeden Fall wert, im CD Regal zu stehen!

No se acerca ni de lejos a la belleza de su primer LP. Las canciones parecen haber sido alargadas para rellenar el álbum. Esta no es mi primera Tracy, que me la han cambiao.

le cinque stelle sono tutte per tracy chapman, un altro album stupendo di quest'artista grandiosa.il cd e' inciso con qualita' alta, il suono e' pulito , caldo e profondo. consigliato a chi piace la musica, non ve ne pentitrete. per il resto amazon e' stata precisa nei tempi di consegna ed impeccabile come sempre. tutto 5 stelle
