Must Read for All Christians!
MICHAEL PATTON'S book NOW THAT I'M A CHRISTIAN is a must read for all Christians. It is refreshingly thoughtful, accurate and thorough-yet-succinct introduction to the Christian life as disciples of the historic Jesus of Nazareth. It can be used a refresher for seasoned saints, as well as a primer for new believers. Added, it is an excellent resource for discipling Christians in the foundations of biblical orthodoxy and orthopraxy. The book addresses many issues that most introductory texts miss. I especially appreciated Patton's inclusion of the topic of suffering, doubt and the so-called problem of evil/pain. As a writer, Patton manages to grab the heart and engage the mind with skillful simplicity and richness. Full disclosure here... I am a bibliophile, that is, I love and hoard books, especially books related to the Christian faith. I have read hundreds of books (seriously) in this genre of new believer literature and this is--by far--one of the best, if not 'the best' book I have ever encountered. I pray this becomes a classic like John Stott's 'Basic Christianity.' Patton's book is reminiscent of Stott and other great intros to discipleship (e.g. James Montgomery Boice’s ‘Christ’s Call to Discipleship'; Robert Coleman’s 'Master Plan of Evangelism'; J. Oswald Sanders 'Spiritual Discipleship'; Paul Little’s 'Know What/Why You Believe'). Patton's book is amazing! I wholeheartedly recommend you read it and use it to disciple others in the church. TOLLE LEGE!!!! SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!! Thanks Michael Patton for this great book!!!!

Essential Elements of the Christian Faith
As a person who grew up in churches where no answers were given for hard faith questions (how Jesus could be both man and God, is God not logically the author of evil, what do you mean the Trinity means three people with one being, etc.), I do wish this book were available as a reference when I both had questions about the Christian faith as well as when I really became a follower of Christ. The author hits the issues head on and is transparent through the process.Whether Protestant, Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox, this book describes the basis for belief and growth in the Christian faith, including the uniting beliefs and differing doctrine, as well as highlighting that which makes Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons considered non-Christian.Though this book is intended to be an overview of salvation and sanctification in the Christian faith, it also provides theological guidance of the most important issues and points to solid references for further reading. Not only do I highly recommend this book, but my family will all be going through it as an essential guide to the Christian faith!

Excellent for New Believers (and everyone else)
Chapter 7, Study, is worth the price of admission for Michael Patton's guide for new Believers. It sets the stage for new Believers, will help them build confidence in their new faith based on the understanding of the Word of God, and is great for all Believers.Michael's writing style makes for a very comfortable read. Every chapter provides meaningful and essential explanations to Christian foundations that some life long Christians have never been exposed to or understand. The book does not just scratch the surface, but provides excellent details in an understandable way backed up by Scripture.I had trouble with Chapter 9, Suffering, but I think that means I need to read it again. As far as that goes I can see myself reading this whole book at least once a year as part of my ongoing study just to build up and refresh my faith and understanding. It is a great reference for any Christian. As a bonus, you will also learn a few Latin phrases too!

Excellent and solid book
Now That I'm A Christian: What It Means To Follow Jesus by C. Michael Patton. Excellent and solid book. I wish I could have read this book 10 years ago 🤦♀️. The book describes essential / fundamental elements of Christian faith. The first 5 chapters focus on the basics of the faith, the essential doctrines: "Bible," "Man," "God," "Christ," and "Faith." And the remaining 5 chapters focus on the christian life,"Prayer," "Study," "Church," "Suffering," and "Mission." I especially loved chapter 7: Study. The book is written for new believers but I think, it’s a must read book.

A good primer to grow in the faith
"Now that I’m a Christian" is a resource that provides believers with a good foundation for discipleship. This book holds a good balance between its biblical and practical teaching. The author introduces several words in the Christian vocabulary and concisely defines them so readers can grasp their meaning and use. Each chapter covers a fundamental topic of the faith, such as: The Bible, Man, God, Christ, Faith, Prayer, Study, Church, Suffering, and Mission. It’s a resource that can easily be used for one-to-one mentoring, a group study or personal development. I appreciated its “Additional Discipleship Training” resources at the end of each chapter. That section offers good books, etc. for further study. I recommend Patton's book to everyone; whether you are just curious, a skeptic, a mature believer or new to the faith, You will gain a better understand on key aspects of Christianity.

I wish I could have read this book 25 years ago !!
I've never come across a book which has so concisely and simply presented a complete picture of the essentials of being a Christian, without avoiding difficult subjects like suffering and providing some of the tools necessary for effective bible study and application in a contemporary setting, and a realistic, biblical view of prayer. The calebre of information is of university standard yet presented in a way that I would have no qualms sitting with my 11 year old, going through it together over a few weeks, knowing that there is very little, if anything, that he wouldn't understand. Which is quitement achievement. All while avoiding taking a dogmatic position in non-essential subjects which have so devisive in causing unnecessary disunity in the church through the centuries, pointing out some of the historical errors along the way.Its one of those books you want everyone to read, new Christians and those long in the tooth alike. Unfortunately mine's on Kindle so tied to me by the DRM, so I'm going to buy a paper copy to pass-on

A good starting point
The book gives an overview of essential Christian beliefs and practices. The topics tend to be simplified but that's in keeping with the purpose of the book, to get you started, not to exhaustively explain everything. It's primarily written for new Christians but is also useful those who hope to minister to new Christians. If you desire to disciple others but don't know where to start, this book gives you a starting point by introducing essential issues that you can discuss. As a starting point, the goal is that you'll move on to deeper knowledge and each chapter has some suggestions for further study.
