Mad Libs that are age appropriate
This is a fun way to help kids keep their skills fresh. I picked this up to add to our road trip activities. I was cautious after reading the reviews. I have to wonder if others who are writing reviews know what “mad libs” are? (Combine Mad/wild with ad lib. The intention IS wild stories) This is not a reading comprehension workbook! It’s a game styled work book that also has a page on a specific reading skill like vowel sounds for each page. The child reviews the skill, then has fun creating the “mad lib” that uses that skill. Mad lis are SUPPOSED to be wacky, fun and creative!! The point is to have fun and get a “mad” story at the end.If you want a work book to just drill reading skills that is not the point of this book. It is supposed to make kids laugh, and have fun and be engaged in practicing skills they are learning in reading. There is a key at the back for the writing spelling grammar pages, which can be helpful to parents. This is a fun adapted way for young kids to enjoy mad libs.I added some pics so parents could get an idea of what the book is about.

Comprehension skills? Impossible
I bought this book for my first grader. It claims to teach, among other things, comprehension and vocabulary. Every other page is a story with blanks to be filled in by the child from a list of words. The lists include no words that will make sense, so it is teaching screwy thinking, incomprehensilbe stories, and confusling vocabulary. Just one example:"They saw a _________ shaped like a cube."The word choices for that sentence are: pig, goat, knight, crying fly, and child. It is like that for almost every sentence of a page long story. While a little nonsense helps to entertain a child and help him/her through the lesson, these stories, which comprise half the book, are nothing but nonsense and completely throw a child off. My child has focus problems to begin with, and this makes it worse. I wish I'd been aware of this problem soon enough to get my money back.
