Comparing hand-held vs side-way spiralizer
This spiralizer is so cute! I have used the side-way kind of spiralizer (similar to Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer ) before. I love both and they are good for different purposes. I will jot down my notes on the pros and cons and then give a recommendation at the end.Pros/Cons & RecommendationsIf you have absolutely limited space and no room for negotiation:- The hand-held spiralizer is MUCH smaller. It takes up very little precious space in the kitchen cabinet. The side-way model is huge, like 6+ times bigger. If space is your limitation, go with the hand-held.If space is NOT a limitation, then think about what you like/need to cook.- The side-way model is much easier and faster to prepare the veggies with the crank mechanism. The hand-held model is all about twisting with your wrist. It's not difficult but definitely a lot slower. If you have a big family to feed, go with the side-way model.- Due to the cone shape design of the hand-held model, you can only spiralize things that is smaller than the opening of the cone. The side-way model has no boundary around the blade area, so you can spiralize a much better object through the blade. If you plan to prepare a lot of bigger items (e.g. cabbage), go with the side-way model.- Keep in mind, the bigger the tool, the more to wash. Even if you have space in your kitchen, it doesn't mean that you should go with the side-way model. If you like to prepare small meals here and there, the hand-held one is much easier to set up (i.e. none), use, clean, and put away.If you decide to go with the hand-held model, I highly recommend getting one that comes with interchangeable blades. This gives you a lot more flexibility and options on what you can do with your veggies in addition to thin long strips. I also particularly like this Xclusive spiralizer because it comes with a little tool to help push the blades out and a mini brush to help with cleaning. Changing/cleaning blades could be dangerous, so this thoughtful design has my 2 thumbs up.

Zucchini worked beautifully as did potatoes
I was excited about this new kitchen tool. The spiralizer is small, light weight, and efficient for certain types of veggies. I found that normal size carrots did not work well as much of the carrot went through the center hole without being spiralized and when the carrot was wide enough to begin the process, then it was difficult to turn the carrot because there wasn't much of it left. Zucchini worked beautifully as did potatoes, but the end piece was relatively useless to finish the veggie beyond where I could hold it with my hand. It simply pushed into the zucchini but did not turn it and did not work at all with the carrot. The bag is a great idea, but it is too small. There needs to be a little more room to easily put in the spiralizer, extra blades, and the little screwdriver tool. There should be directions on changing the blades. Overall, I loved the ability to spiralize my veggies creating a gorgeous colorful salad, but there are drawbacks that can be corrected.

Doesn't cut quite as easily as other models
Could have gone 2 or 3 stars.Slicer came with a broken blade. Looked low quality if it wasn't broken. But this was just a little extra. Still, would have prefered it didn't even come with the spiralizer.Spiralizer itself if what you are buying it for though. I'd get something a little nicer. I haven't used it enough to comment on longevity, but it does the job. Doesn't cut quite as easily as other models. Biggest annoyance though is that it wastes more of the veggie by leaving a larger core than necessary (not that you can't still eat it, but less that you can use for the intended purpose). This means that over the course of time, a more expensive model will pay off better in terms of not needing to buy as much produce to do the same job. The metal handles are not very comfortable, but it's not a big deal. Bottom line is it does work. But I'd look for something a bit more efficient. If the side item wasn't broken it'd give it 3 stars. If there wasn't as much waste, 4 stars.

Only does half the task
This product contained all the additional equipment as advertised. When I used it, I had the same problem that a few reviewers had noted. The first half of a medium sized zucchini spiralized into thin strips as expected. However, when I tried to attach the pronged holder to the end of the zucchini, it just mushed up the end of the zucchini and did not push it through. About half of the vegetable had to be cut up to be used. I tried a carrot, and the design of the spiralizer only allows the bottom part of the carrot to be spiralized. This time, the carrot was too hard to allow the prongs of the holder to grab on. This is my first adventure with a spiralizer, so maybe the manual versions all work the same way. Maybe a bigger zucchini would work better, but I don't like the seedy older zucchini.

Took me awhile to figure it out haha. After I realized you have to hold it horizontally it worked much better! May upgrade to a standalone if I use this frequently as it is a little tedious. However, this is a great buy, very small and compact. And the ceramic vegetable peeler works awesome and is a great bonus

Nice kitchen gadget
Easy to use. I chose this one over others because it has four different blade styles. One less star due to the thinness of the blade 'tab' at the top to slide it out of the track, as I am not confident it won't bend and break off.

kind of like stripping a screw
It takes a LOT of turning to get enough zucchini done up for a family of four and this tires my wrist out. Also, sometimes the little safety pusher, because it is not made sharp enough, just mushes into the vegetable, kind of like stripping a screw. That part is a less than stellar design.

I liked the fact that it had multiple size / shape blades. I have only used it on zucchini, but that worked well. I haven't used any other similar product, so I do not have anything to compare it to.
