I have tried a lot of Seitan. This one has great flavor in soups or stews. A great replacement for chicken in all Indian currys.

Odd taste and texture.
This was my first time buying Seitan, I bought Seitan Jerky and loved it, so I figured I'dgive Seitan a try, I didn't love this product. It doesn't look like any pictures of Seitan I saw on the internet. The texture and taste are off putting. I'll try to make a batch next time.

Its smaller than the image appears, but its packed tight
Even though it is smaller than I expected, the seitan inside is a pound of food. I opened it and ate some immediately because I was so curious. For me, I can use this in two nice size meal portions. It tastes fine (but I am into health food) and half of the box filled me up alone. Normally, I think you would use maybe 1/4 to a 1/3 of the package and eat it with some vegetables and rice or something. When I first saw the package, it seemed really small, but its packed full with no spaces. Notice when you purchase a package, its usually filled with air? Not for this one, the package is completely filled with product, so, it made sense once I opened it. If you compare it to how a tuna can is packed, it was fine. I do think it is a rather expensive, however the quality is great! Some seasoning and with proper meal prep, it probably can take on the taste of anything you want.

This thing calling itself “seitan “ arrived today. SPOILER ALERT: ITS NOT SEITAN!! It’s some awful blend of beans rice and wheat gluten. Smells awful ( and I’ve been a vegetarian for over 30 years - I know funky smells.) says you can sauté it. Tried that. Still tasted like wet cardboard. Tried every kind of sauce you could imagine, still tasted like wet cardboard! This is NOT seitan. It shouldn’t even be marketed as such.So disappointed. Shame you can’t give NEGATIVE STARS.Disgusting. Don’t order. EVER.

I love this product and cannot really comprehend why others hate it unless they do not know how to prep it? Now one thing about it is, it tastes like Lentils and so if you hate lentils you WILL dislike this. But I love lentils. Anyhow I think what the issue may be is this product is not a solid chewy version of seitan like you may find in Asian places or shops. Or like other brands sell. This is more like a square of pressed seitan that is soft. Think canned meats except it’s not meat. You slice it up as you would say Spam or something and then prepare and cook it. It requires knowing what to do with it and to add to it to give it flavor. Yes, the texture is different that other seitan, it is softer, sponges almost out of the box. It provides a different option and that’s not a bad thing! It tastes lentil like with sweet spices and no saltiness. It’s a bit bland because you are meant to add to it sauces or herbs, or oils etc. and it tastes great when it’s done well. I will keep getting it until bad reviews probably make it stop being sold. Happens too often.
