Tech Jacket Vol. 1: The Boy From Earth

Ever since I read a copy of this tradepack by taking out of my local library, I have been looking for a way to get ahold of a copy to add to my personal library. I'm glad that I was not only able to do so thanks Amazon, but this is a brand new copy to boot.I highly recommend one searching for those hard to find items to give this place a shot, its well worth the time.

Very fun and action packed armor weilder comic, Kirkman honestly has not dissapointed me yet as I am currently reading invincible and I'm going to also start reading The Astounding Wildman. Kirkman's Invincible Universe for Image has really got my attention now and I plan on continuing tech jacket with volumes 2 & 3 and the other titles that revolve around kirkman's universe.

One of the other reviews on this page pretty much says it all, however since I'm sure so few Invincible, Walking Dead fans have actually read Tech Jacket, I felt obligated to give it another review.If you love Robert Kirkman's work (and if you're on this page right now I'm assuming you do) then you have to read this book, simply because it's his first creator owned series! Kirkman writes a wonderful forward in the beginning of the book, telling how Tech Jacket and Invincible basically came out around the same time but Invincible sales were SLIGHTLY better, he had to stop one of the books and he chose Tech Jacket. Was that the right call? Probably since Invincible is my favorite superhero comic series of all time!Tech Jacket just didn't get the chance to continue, however it shows a great beginning to a great writer's career. The only reason the book isn't 5 stars is because it feels like the story being told is slightly rushed and it's underdeveloped, but saying anything negative about Kirkman's work is me being really really picky. It's a really fun story with likeable characters, good humor, and very fitting artwork. I do hope Kirkman goes back to Tech Jacket in the future.

Its good to see more tech based heroes in fiction.Recommend highly to all comic book fans of ironman. 5 stars

Tech Jacket is an Image comic by Robert Kirkman, better known for his work on comics such as "The Walking Dead" and "Invincible". The story is centered around the character Zack Thompson, a teenager whose life is suddenly changed when he acquires a suit of alien battle armor, the tech jacket. With this suit he gains access to vast strength and a versatile arsenal of equipment.He is soon pulled into the middle of a war between the suits creators the Geldarians, a technologically advanced but physically frail species, and there enemies the Kresh, a race of gaseous beings who require to mechanized suits to survive outside their homeworld. The tech jackets were built to amplify the users natural strength. In the hands of a Geldarian it grants incredible abilities, but in the hands of a human who is naturally stronger it becomes an unrivaled weapon.Overall Tech Jacket is an interesting concept with a decent cast of characters. Most of its flaws stem from being a new franchise that was just starting out. As such it has the usual growing pains of having to establish everything without being boring. The character development is sacrificed a little in the name of keeping the action fast paced.Tech Jacket's original run was cut short due to a number of reasons, but it has recently been revived again. Overall it is a series that looks to have a great deal of potential.

Das ganze erinnert ein wenig an Guyver und Iron Man in Kombination.Leider werden die Charaktere detaillos dargestellt was sich ab Ausgabe 4 ein wenig bessert.Der Band enthält Ausgabe 1-6 in Englisch mit zusätzlichen Hintergrund Informationen und einem Interview mit Kirkman.Wenn man das Potenzial dieser Serie besser ausgenutzt hätte...Schade , vielleicht kommt ja irgendwann ein Reboot...

Tech Jacket est un personnage qui a souffert de la multiplication des activités de son auteur Robert Kirkman, en particulier après le décollage de "Walking Dead", et aussi d'Invincible, même si dans ce dernier cas, il fut "résistible" au départ !Créé en 2002 avec Kirkman aux écrits et E. J. Su aux dessins, le comic book mensuel de Tech Jacket a été publié par Image Comics de novembre 2002 à avril 2003. L'abandon décidé de la série a contraint Kirkman à modifier ses plans pour les dernières pages de la série. Ce sont ces six épisodes qui sont repris dans ce recueil publié initialement en 2003 et dont le présent commentaire porte sur la réédition de 2007. A cette dernière date encore, nous explique Kirkman dans la préface, il restait douteux qu'une suite intervienne. Finalement, de nouveaux comic books de Tech Jacket ont été publiés en 2013-2014 et un nouveau trade paperback est paru fin 2014 (cf. ' Tech Jacket Volume 2 ', pas lu) pour apporter la conclusion du premier "arc". Le personnage poursuit depuis de nouvelles aventures avec d'autres créateurs à la barre.Une "veste tech", c'est une forme d'exo-squelette ou d'armure à la Iron Man que se sont inventés des extra-terrestres, les Geldarians, pour se protéger car leur mode de vie moderne les a ramolis (!) mais aussi, pour un certain nombre d'entre eux, pour se défendre et même attaquer dans le cadre d'un long conflit armé de type "Guerre de Cent Ans" contre leurs ennemis les Kresh. Dans des conditions proches de celles dans lesquelles Hal Jordan a été doté de son équipement de Green Lantern dans la seconde partie des années 1950, le collégien Zack Thompson se trouve à récupérer une "tech jacket" totalement mystérieuse, qui l'enveloppe à l'insu de son plein gré et dont le "donateur" n'a guère le temps de lui expliquer le A à Z. Les autorités geldariennes suivent de très près ce que deviennent les "tech jacket" et quel usage en est fait. Cela nous rassure un peu quand même ! Zack est donc convoqué sur la planète geldarienne pour s'expliquer... Le gamin va finir par être "adopté" par ses hôtes et deviendra même un redoutable atout dans la guerre contre les Kresh.Pour ne pas plus spoiler (je n'ai rien dit du méga "cliffhanger" final, entre autres points !), je soulignerai que ce TPB se lit avec plaisir. Il n'apporte certainement rien de révolutionnaire (un ado récupère des super-pouvoirs et se rend compte qu'avec ces super-pouvoirs viennent de grandes responsabilités...), mais le récit est bien mené, laissant par exemple un temps des zones d'ombre pour les éclairer brutalement ensuite selon un procédé kirkmanien que les lecteurs d'Invincible connaissent bien, et les dessins de E.J. Su, inspirés des mangas, apportent beaucoup à l'agrément de lecture d'une série de bonne qualité.Un cahier d'extras est proposé, avec des études de personnages, de couvertures etc. de E.J.
