Excellent quality!
I have the middle school books from the same author and I'm glad that this book retained the quality of the storytelling, likeable characters, and positive messages that don't feel preachy. The art is a step above the other books like Courage and Awkward, and the characters are just as lovely. It did kinda end abruptly, but all her books do so maybe I'm just used to it. Still, I'm really glad I got it. Btw I'm an adult and I was able to appreciate the story because, while accessible in terms of how the topics are shown, it is not infantalized or kiddy. It's still sophisticated and anyone can enjoy it, but for sure it's more for a middle school age range.

Great to discover a new Night School book
Came much faster than I expected. Well packaged excellent condition. As for the review, DH thought the book was too busy - needed to be more fleshed out and could have made 2 volumes, give a little more attention to the old school in the silent woods etc. I would've liked to have seen a little more of the parents, but I can wait for second book for that, I hope. This is written for a less critical audience than the original Night School series, which I have always wanted Svetlana to revisit and perhaps reveal more about Hunters and definitely more about Nicholas the gentlemanly vampire. Plus the artwork is a little less...mature? almost slapdash, but that might be what the target age - Jr High_ wants. What do I know? I'm 70 years old!

Fun new work by a favorite author
I really enjoyed the authors previous series, Nightschool (4 volumes). This is aimed at a slightly younger audience. (Night school was about high school ages characters, this is a little younger.)Good characters, plot, world building and action. The magic system isn't as well explained as in Nightschool but that had 4 volumes to work with, it is still clear enough to understand what is going on. This has a villain with enough sense of danger to make you care and read faster.Hopefully more to follow.

A Magical Adventure!
Book one of “The Weirn Books” was a fun and easy read. I love stories with strong female lead characters and magic. This story was successful bringing this kind of eerie, but beautiful setting to life, with characters that are treated like the “underdogs,” but make you want to cheer them on.I would recommend this book for anyone entering 4th grade and up.

Fun start to a new series
Review first posted at Girl Who Reads. A free copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.Allis is a weirn, a witch with a demon guardian. She attends school to learn about magic and also has to juggle her family, life as a weirn, and friendships. While out with her friends, they saw a light on in an old school that children disappeared from. Her cousin disappears, so now they all have to find her.Chemkova wrote and illustrated other wonderful middle-grade books in the Berrybrook Middle School series. (Awkward, Brave, Crush and Diary) In this first volume of a new middle-grade comic series, the Night Realm is a place populated by shifters, vampires, and weirns. Other creatures that appear human live there as well as actual humans. Even so, the children still have to go to school! There are all the usual middle school drama pieces here, with friends and frenemies and nemeses, studying for tests and trying to do specialized training classes. Even if they don't have an astral of their own, kids will still appreciate the struggles of school and friendships. They know to avoid the creepy house in the woods and generally follow the rule until kids disappear again.I love the art style, and the little touches that show how astrals protect their bonded witches. When it rains, they become umbrellas or will become spiky when a strange figure is stalking the witch. The story is revealed slowly, and the kids are very resourceful and brave in the face of danger. This is a great start to the series, with a final page that tells us that everything is not as calm or safe as the children all think it is.
