Based on John Green's award-winning first novel, Looking for Alaska is a limited series about friendship, love and loss. Miles Pudge Halter (Charlie Plummer) is searching for a deeper perspective on life and decides to enroll at the boarding school Culver Creek Academy. He finds a loyal group of friends and falls in love with Alaska Young (Kristine Froseth). After an unexpected tragedy, the close group of friends tries to cope with everything they've been through and find some answers along the way. Written for TV by Josh Schwartz (The O.C. and Gossip Girl).

Worth the time and money.
Highly highly recommend this mini series. Mature content, but very well presented. I've known each of the people represented in some form or another.

Almost perfect mini series adapt of a coming of age John Green book
Looking for Alaska is an excellent teen drama that captures well the book it was based on by John Green. If you know John Green's writing, then you know what to expect from this series. Adapting a young adult novel to a series format rather than a movie is an excellent idea that hopefully more studios will take up in the future. You just need to look at the decades-old style of the BBC series retelling of classic literature to see how this medium is better suited for literature of any genre. Looking for Alaska is a coming of age story in the John Green style. It deals with the angst of teenage relationships in the typical high-language of John Green that you rarely find in adult's mouths let alone teens. But that is the appeal of the Green niche. The dialogue has its wit, the characters have their appeal, and the actors are superb. We need to see more of the young actors (the Colonel and Alaska especially are standout performances). The problem with this series is in its final two episodes. They feel a bit too stretched and the characters seem to go off course (not a fault of the acting but the thinly stretched plotting and dialogue of these last two episodes) and perhaps this should have been a 7 episode series rather than an 8, but regardless it is a good story. You will enjoy it if you like romantic dramas. You will like it even more if you are a fan of YA fiction. And you will probably give this five stars if you are a John Green fan. I am giving it four because of those final two meh episodes. Anyway, give it a rental. It might be your "great perhaps" of the week.
