While I love living in a place with low humidity, my almost 90-year-old bassoon does not. I’ve used this in my case for about 2 years, and it’s made a tremendous difference in how consistently my bassoon plays. I use the humidor bag and 72% humidity packs for my reeds as well. Are use these to keep my $7000 banjo at the perfect humidity. I’ve been using these for about 2 1/2 months now and I still only had to use one packet. I have I have a humidity tracker inside of my case and I haven’t had an issue with the humidity going to high or too low ever since I started using this product.

I purchased the starter kit which comes with a very cheap cloth bag (see photos), and two 49% RH packs. I am trying to maintain the humidity of a few wooden objects in a relatively small, sealed container. My RH in the house is between 58-74%. The packet is unable to keep up. I tried giving it a head start by putting a dehumidifier packet in the box for a few days so drop the RH to around 40% but the moment I remove it and put the Boveda packet in, the best it could do is about room RH minus 4-5%. This puts me close to 60% most days, when I am looking for 45-55% RH in the container. I think this could work fine if you live in an area that is very very close to the 49% RH this is targeting, otherwise, it's a total waste of money. I would try putting both packets in at the same time but since they can't be used without the cloth bag, I'd have to buy another (expensive) bag.

I have an ooblong viola case (rectangular viola case) that holds 2 viola bows and a 16 3/8” viola. Inside the case is a hygrometer that measures humidity. I also have a thermostat humidifier in my home and a smart camera that measures humidity. Essentially I have 3 ways to get an idea of the humidity in my house and I find that these 3 sensors are pretty close in reporting the humidity in my house. It’s been in the 65%-70% humidity for the past few weeks in the Pacific Northwest. I put the 49% Boveda pack in my case and make sure my case is closed to seal it in as much as possible. Whenever I take my instrument out I make sure the case is closed. My hygrometer inside the case still shows 65%-70% humidity over two weeks. I decided to get aggressive and put another 49% Boveda packet in my case so that I have a total of 2 of them in my case. I monitor this over two weeks and the humidity has not gone down to anywhere near 49%. Basically the humidity in the case is just the same as the room. I find these to be completely useless and a waste of money. Perhaps they work better in adding humidity rather than lowering it. I guess I will give it another try in the Winter season when it is colder and dryer. If it works, I will update the review and bump up the rating.

Humidity is always kept at a perfect level with this product.
