Check your tank for a lower temp then 78* before thinking it is broken
This heater is fine provided you are ok with it being off the rated 78*F a slight bit. Mine kicks in at 77* and then the red light goes on and it holds steady at 77*F in a 20 long and rarely lights to maintain temp. Even though my room temp was 73*, my LED tank lights were high enough to make it never actually light until I tested with ice cubes and a thermometer. It's liertally half the size of the top rated German 100 watt which won't even fit well anywhere but the back and the black and small size makes it blend well in a planted with dark substrate.Long term reliability is iffy at under $15 based on Utube vids but so far, I am very happy. Only a 6 footish cord, so you may need an extension from the outlet, especially to place it low and horizontally.

It accomplish what I needed it to
I have a single fish in a 40 gallon tank, the tank is downstairs where it is much colder so it quickly brought the temperature up from 62°. The description said that It should have a set temperature of 78°. I have had it in and operating for many weeks, it has never gone up to 78°. But that is okay, because goldfish need to be between 73 and 75. So far the temperature bounces from 70 to 75 depending on the time of day and temperature of the house. It is silent, easy to install, light, and is barely noticeable in the tank. It works great I recommend

Good
This is a good heater, but have had a couple issues. This is my second one. The first one worked great, but after a few months, it stopped working. I ordered a new one, and this one keeps shutting off even though the water isn't that warm. Maybe it's on purpose, because it shuts off around 80 degrees, but I swear the first one heated warmer. My ideal would be about 82 degrees.

Great product but there is a catch
Aqueon is a trusted brand in the aquarium industry. This heater is very convenient because it is preset and has safety features built in. I bought it to maintain temperature in my betta fish tanks but came to find out that it only works correctly if your home is warm enough. To elaborate, the ambient temperature of your house needs to be 73 in order to get your tank to 78. I did not know this before I bought several of these and therefore, my tanks are not at the desired temperature. I feel that this is a design flaw or oversight and really wish that the brand would correct this. How many people really heat their houses to 73 in the winter? Unfortunately, I am unable to heat my house more than 65 degrees. I still use this heater anyway but my betta fish is not living in optimal conditions due to the way the heater was designed. If your house is above 73, I highly recommend this heater. Aqueon makes great products.

Only worked for a month
I had this for about a month and the heater no longer works at all. It emits the slightest bet of warmth and nothing else. Complete dud. Will be looking at other brands

Great heater
This heater is awesome in that it maintains a consistent 78 degrees at all times. I love that it lights up so you can tell when it is on and that it has an auto shut off. We are using it in a 20 gallon tank and it does a great job. Though something I only realized after purchase is that it says works for tanks up to 40 gallons in the product description, but in the details it notes it works best up to 30 gallons.

Don't worry about the auto-shut-offs as it heats the aquarium
I bought two of these for my 29G Tiger Barb and 20G Platy aquariums. This is a really good heater for smaller tanks and is pretty accurate. At the start, I thought the first heater was defective since it started shutting off before it reached the desired 78F. But then I understood that it's sudden water temps is detrimental for our fish. So wait 48 hrs as the heater adjusts the temps 2 degrees at a time which is safe for your fish. I LOVE the fact that all I had to do was stick on the suction cup (right under the heater's head) and put it in the aquarium and plug it in. I placed the first one in the 20G yesterday, Saturday. This afternoon, Sunday, it's now at the perfect 78F and Platys are happy! Tiger Barbs just got their heater this morning (overnight delivery) and it's still "only" at 76F. I suspect it'll reach 78F by tomorrow morning. During these cold nights (temps dropped aquarium temps to below 68!) these heaters are a godsend! If there are any changes, I'll update this review accordingly
