After reviewing several grammar books before I started teaching in Southeast Asia, I choose this one. Parrot presents grammar points in an understandable easy to follow format, especially in comparison to the other leading grammars. Easy to use and Highly Recommended!

Very useful.

I was excited to receive this book to study to be an ESL teacher. I'm an American.1. The style is irritatingly British. "Most learners are more concerned with the meaning of nouns than their grammar. However, in learning to use a noun, they [i]need to[/i] pay attention to a variety of grammatical factors. In particular, they [i]need to [/i] know whether a noun is countable or uncountable, and if countable, what its plural form is. More generally, learners also [i]need to[/i]:" (page 7.) This overuse of "need to" instead of "should" reflects the general tendency of the British and of American media, in all its political correctness, to avoid duty and remind us that we driven by cravings. But this is just a style point.2. The examples are incorrect. The upper table on page 9 illustrates how a noun's use can determine whether it is "countable" or "uncountable." Unfortunately, the particular word chosen for the uncountable example, "interest," can also take an indefinite article, "She showed an interest in this topic."3. There are blatantly incorrect statements. Section 1.4 concludes, on page 9, with the statement, "Countable nouns are also called mass nouns, and uncountable nouns are also called unit nouns." Had you never read an English grammar, this would be counterintuitive, but let's check a reliable resource: [url=[...] entry for mass noun.[/url]4. The grammar of this grammar hasn't been checked. On page 13, there is a missing period at the end of a paragraph, "It is also more common in formal and written English" Usually this type of gross error does not occur until much later on in a publication, when the editor has gotten quite bored with the task.5. The grammar itself is British. On page 12, "The names or initials of many organi[i]s[/i]ations [i](The Halifax Building Society, NATO)[/i] also function like collective nouns. [i]Coca cola are rapidly expanding.[/i]" Really, one would never speak this way in America, and this is not the correct grammar of American English. In other parts of the text, they do nod to American grammar, "Some people believe..." but the text would be more usable to all if it delineated specific regional use, as is done in a dictionary. On the other hand, they could change the title to "Grammar for English Language Teachers of British English."At this point, I had to put the book down, which is unusual for I usually eat grammars.

As is evident from the book's title, this book is intended for practising and prospective teachers. Its simple structure enables the teacher to teach grammar lucidly and effectively. Every chapter features an analysis of common grammatical difficulties that students encounter when studying grammar. This advantage will help you identify the difficulties and accordingly reveal efficient ways to help students deal with troublesome points of grammar.In the following, I will account for the chief characteristics of this book:1. a very simple structure,2. a thorough analysis of complex sentence structures,3. the identification of typical grammatical difficulties,4. its methodological and pedagogical structure,5. its simple terminology,6. it is comprehensive and lucid7. it will help teacher to choose the most effective method to teach grammar.The above-mentioned features should help you decide if this is the book you need! In my opinion, this is the only book you need to become a competent english teacher.

Grammar for English Language Teacher is a must have book if you are in English teaching business. This book is very user friendly and its content is extremely useful and relevant. I am very pleased to have it and recommend it 100%.

very good condition

This book covers everything and more. However its language and order means it is not for the beginner but for someone already fluent and understanding of english grammar. I am a prospective english teacher and was looking forward to the assistance of this book. I think I will in time but will need to read other books first before i can get near to this level. Things are not explained simply but assume you already know the words he uses and the meanings behind them even as early as the first few pages.

Ich bedanke mich und entschuldige mich gleichzeitig, dass ich heute erst bewerte. Aber dieses Buch kann ich wärmstens jedem empfehlen, der/die sich mit der englischen Sprache näher beschäftigt. Dem Verkäufer sei gesagt: Sehr gepflegte Ware zum Schnäppchenpreis, absolut schnelle Lieferung und entsprechende Schutzverpackung. Ich kann diesen Verkäufer vorbehaltlos weiterempfehlen. This is a good book, for someone who is non native learning to teach English. It is also useful for native speakers. It has good explanations, however I also found it wordy.
