An Absolute Workhorse for DIY and Pro Jobs Alike
TLDR : This is one of those tools you'll buy for a specific job and then immediately find a hundred other uses for. It’s perfect for cutting plasterboard, notching joists, sanding in tight corners, and so much more. Whether you're a serious DIY enthusiast looking to upgrade or a professional who needs reliability and performance, I can't recommend this multi-tool enough. It’s a fantastic investment and you'll wonder how you managed without it. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a Bare Tool! It's crucial to know that this "NT-XJ" model is a bare tool, meaning it does not come with a battery or charger. This is great if you're already invested in the DeWalt 18V XR platform. If you're new to the system, you'll need to buy them separately. I purchased the DEWALT 18V XR 4Ah Battery (DCB182-XJ) and the DEWALT Charger (DCB1104), and this combination is perfect. The 4Ah battery provides a great balance of power, runtime, and weight, without making the tool feel bulky. I highly recommend that setup if you're starting from scratch. ---- I’ve been on the fence about getting a premium multi-tool for a while, wondering if it would be worth the investment over cheaper alternatives. After using the DEWALT DCS356NT-XJ, the answer is a resounding YES. This tool is an absolute game-changer for my DIY projects and would be right at home in any professional's tool bag. Power and Control First off, the power is phenomenal. It doesn't just vibrate, it aggressively cuts. I used it to trim down some thick side panels for a cabinet project, and it went through the wood like a hot knife through butter. I also had a fiddly job trimming a tough brush door seal to size, and this tool handled it with precision and ease. The 3-speed selector is a brilliant feature, allowing you to match the power to the task. For delicate work, you can use the lower setting, but when you need to hog out material, the top speed is incredible. The variable speed trigger gives you even more granular control, which is fantastic for starting cuts cleanly. Ergonomics and Design For the amount of power it puts out, it's surprisingly comfortable to hold and not too heavy, even with a 5Ah battery on it. The vibrations are managed well, meaning you don't feel like your hands are going to fall off after a few minutes of use. The front-mounted LED light is bright and genuinely useful, perfectly illuminating the cut line in dusky sheds or awkward cupboards. The Best Blade System - No Compromises! This was a huge selling point for me. The tool-free blade change clamp is fast, secure, and a massive upgrade from fumbling with Allen keys. The best part? It uses the standard, widely available universal multitool blades that you can find anywhere. But what makes DeWalt geniuses is that they also include a small adapter ring in the box, which allows you to securely fit Starlock blades as well! It’s the best of both worlds, and you’re never stuck searching for a specific type of blade. This version (the NT-XJ) comes with a robust TSTAK case, and it’s perfect. It's not some flimsy blow-moulded afterthought. It’s a proper, durable case with custom foam that neatly holds the tool, a good selection of included blades and accessories, and has dedicated cut-outs for two batteries and a charger. It’s stackable with other TSTAK cases, making storage and transport a breeze.

Does so many trimming and cutting jobs and the whole kit and case are perfect
I’ve wanted one of these for so many DIY & craft jobs, it’s a good comprehensive set which made all the difference in detailed cutting/trimming to tailor some bookcases into an odd space.

So much better than the alternatives.
Fitters tool that you don’t need but is extremely handy to have. It makes light work of awkward cutting jobs and of course doubles as a detail sander. That's the main reason that I bought one.. as a sander, first and cutter, second. Arrives as you expect, in a TSTAK case, with a few adapters, vacuum ports and so on. Importantly that includes a star-lock adapter and the so called DwWalt Airlock adapter for the sanding base. Oh, and a bundle of blades and mesh pads, although I wouldn’t use the latter until you have bought a pad saver. Mesh pads are well known for messing up base pads. Of course you get what you see in the picture, which means no batteries or charger. I was quite happy using 1.7Ah batteries with mine, so it’s about £50-100 extra for those depending on which quality you buy. Powerstack are the new ones that have a much higher recharge life, but they are almost twice the price. Size of the battery does affect the power of the tool. I owned the mains powered version of this tool before this one, and realised pretty quickly that I had made a mistake. There are two big problems that are sorted with this battery version - the first is speed switch next to the battery, and the second is the hard plastic interior in the case. There are other advantages, but those are the two main ones for me. The first problem that other multi-tools have is speed control. Although it’s very common to have a trigger speed control, they aren’t very easy to use, and the trigger lock only works at full speed. 20,000 rpm is fine when you are cutting, but it’s not fine at all when you are sanding. At that speed, the average velcro sanding pad disintegrates really fast. The pad will get hot, the glue between the felt and the paper melts and you have a right mess. And, as soon as the pad fails, the base pad is next and at the moment they cost £12 to replace. Although the multitool sands quickly at 20,000 rpm, it is far too destructive on sanding and base pads at full speed. So, full speed is not something you want all the time! This DeWalt battery powered tool has a three way speed switch located on the base of the tool, by the battery, and that makes a world of difference. I might add that DeWalt seem to have improved the trigger speed control, because it is easier to use now. It's impossible on the mains powered version. The second problem is the foam interior of other models TSTAK cases. It gets dust stuck in it and falls apart if the case is left in the sun. It’s also not very useful for storing sanding pads and spare items. The moulded plastic interior of this case is much better. The battery and charger slots are great for storing stuff. ALSO, in this case you can store the tool away with a blade attached. In the foam version, you can’t do that. Oddly, you can't store it with the vacuum nozzle attached. Dremel required!! The tool is slightly smaller than the mains powered version and a LOT quieter. The mains version is deafening. Definitely an ear-defender job. The battery powered tool is very tolerable. Oh, you can fit the tool back in the TSTAK with a battery fitted, but not the new 5Ah Powerstack. Those batteries are too wide to fit. Getting back to the sanding base, the DeWalt base pad has a bump in it for dust extraction. Mostly that’s good, but there are times when the bump might get in the way. It’s handy to have an alternative manufacture base pads handy. Fortunately cheap alternatives are available. You can buy pad savers for mesh. At the moment these cost about £5 each, but Trend do a pack of one saver with six mesh sanding pads for little more. News pads are only £12 at the moment, so cheap enough to replace now and then. Dust extraction with mesh, as you would expect, is very good. There is an adapter that goes with blades, and that's reasonable. Unfortunately, DeWalt mesh pads are terrible. They consist of two layers and are well known coming apart. This is especially true for the multitool which runs faster than a normal triangular sander and is very heavy on sanding pads. I buy Trend sanding pads. They are reasonably priced and don't completely disintegrate like the DeWalt ones do. The crazy thing about this kit is that it includes some DeWalt blades. Multitools eat blades for breakfast, so don't buy cheap blades. Good blades are really expensive and DeWalt blades are no exception. The blades in this kit are worth almost as much as the tool. This is a great multitool, and the speed control makes it the only multitool you should consider! This is a superior tool and case, to the mains version. Definitely a step up. I am so glad that I bought it. I am confident saying that if you are in the market for a DeWalt multitool, this is the one to get. I used the mains version for several years and hated it. This one has fast become one of my favourite tools. I use it all the time. Recommended.

Very versatile tool
It arrives without a battery but with all the other accessories included as shown in the video. The tool works well and i loved the three vibration speeds that can be choosen for different works. Also very good option that the tool offers you is trigger speed control under each max speed that was choosen, But the only con i found is that you cannot lock the trigger at any speed you want only on the max speed of one of three speeds that can be choosen - so if you need less power you need to hold the trigger in the speed you want until you finish. After all said I really like this tool and recommend it.

Excellent
After shopping around, this item came up and for the price and what was included it was excellent value for money. I've used it for a few tasks now, including cutting tree roots and cannot fault it. Paired up with a 18v 5 Ah power stack battery, this thing is un-stoppable !

Top Price-Performance. Prompt Delivery. Excelent Packaging. Overall a great Set with a removable Standard Plastic insert. This insert is not as good as a Premium Foam insert since it allows the contents inside to move while traveling but it can be swapped with your own. Delivered accessories abound and the Particle Extraction Addon works very well (Documentation for it is Lacking) No Akkus or Charger is delivered with this Set but there is room inside to add a few Akkus (no room for Charger though). Tool operation feels Premium. BL eMotor is efficient and the Noise Experience is great at low to medium speed. Three Speed Levels are selectable on the back of the Battery Socket Slider and the electronic Trigger Acceleration and Deceleration feel smooth although still too stiff. There is a Trigger Lock. This Multitool model feels small, compact and powerfull in relation to its weight. Oscilations feel shallow. Blade installation experience is one of the best. Easy, secure and Fast. Tool Handling is excelent although still not grippy enough. Vibration absorbtion should be better at high speed. LED Light is too weak and too Blue (best is arround 3500 Kelvin Color temperature with at least 100 Lumen intensity with diffuser). This tool is reccommended for users who are looking for a lightweight multitool for low-to-medium difficulty jobs (18v is a medium size Power).
