Great Primer for the Independent Author and Publisher!
If you don't know where to start promoting your book (or e-book), this is a wonderful resource! The advice to read the book from cover to cover and then implement the ideas that suit your personality and skills is sound advice that works. Many "out of the box" ideas are given that serve as a "springboard" for your own creative ideas given the genre of your publication. After read the book, and having begun implementing some of the ideas, I have seen an increase in print sales for Biblical Hebrew: Vocabulary Made Easy! that were stagnant. The book is easily accessible to the novice and contains solid, practical ideas from an established author and authority in her field. My only complaint is the moderate amount of self-promotion contained in the book. While many resources are listed, some advice is not fully "fleshed out" and sometimes refers the reader to other resources, which must be purchased, to carry out the idea. I fully appreciate the promotional reasoning behind this practice (and I will likely buy some of these resources), but it feels less than 100% complete. That being said, the free resources listed, and knowing where to look next, are worth the price of the book alone. My thanks to Patricia Fry for helping guide a novice self-publishing author.I would heartily recommend this book to any author.

Ideas for Every Genre, Every Writer
As a professional freelance writer, what impressed me most about Patricia Fry's PROMOTE YOUR BOOK: Over 250 proven, low-cost tips and techniques for the enterprising author is that I learned much more than I expected. Fry packed such a wealth of information in this how-to book, featuring her own experiences and those of other authors, that I found myself making notes while reading so that I could fully utilize these ideas for my recently released mystery novel. She offers up these tips in a way that's matter-of-fact and homey, as if you are having a discussion with a friend, but from the point of view of a long-time professional who's been there, done that, and adjusted her technique to suit every situation. PROMOTE YOUR BOOK encourages authors to use their current resources, as well as create and discover new ones to sell their books, whether they are traditionally published, self-published, or published by a small press. It doesn't matter if you write fiction or nonfiction as the tips listed within can be adapted for virtually any genre. As the subtitle says, the ideas--garnered from Fry's nearly four decades of writing--are truly low-cost or even no-cost for publicizing one's book, from making use of mailing lists to chatting up your book to garnering invites to conferences and conventions, and so much more. PROMOTE YOUR BOOK is well-organized, easy to read and lists numerous online organizations and reference websites. All you have to do is take the tips in PROMOTE YOUR BOOK and run with them!

Not very helpful
In all honesty I have to admit that I didn’t finish this book because I write fiction, and as a fiction writer, I found this book to be not so useful. Fiction and non-fiction are two separate animals that I believe need totally different approaches to marketing. So if you are a fiction writer, my recommendation would be; don’t waste your money. What puzzles me is, Ms. Fry appears to be a fiction writer as is evidenced by her numerous Kleptocat books. I wonder if she used the techniques she describes in this book for her own books, and if so, I wonder how many she has actually sold.Even if you’re a non-fiction writer, I don’t find this book very useful unless you are financially independent or are someone with boundless time and energy that enables you to work a full time job, and then spend an equal amount of time promoting your book. What this author recommends would require almost a full time effort for reaching your audience. The how-to books on marketing that I’ve read, and they are many, focus on using your expertise on the subject or genre (if it’s fiction)of your book to market that book, i.e., giving speeches or presentations featuring that expertise. As I mentioned earlier, to prepare for all these events that she recommends would require almost as much time as a second full time job. If you have the time and energy for this, then go for it. Otherwise, write a book listing 251ways to market your book and then use them yourself). :)

Great Collection of How-to advice on Promoting a New Book
This great collection of How-to advice on promoting your book. This is a very useful book on techniques in book promotion and getting noticed. I have begun to apply these techniques and find several of them very useful. The book is packed with information about websites and promotional opportunities. The text is presented in a clear and logical manner, first with an introduction to book promotion and a general overview, moving to a more detail explanation of these topic later in separate chapters. I'm looking forward to exploring the other approaches to advertising a new book. I would recommend this book to authors interested in an overview on the subject of book promotion and use it as a future reference or quick-fact book.

Good basic concepts and info
This is a good resource for those who are starting out and may have no idea where to begin. Fry lays out common sense advice and tips that provide a decent foundation to build a marketing strategy. It is a useful guidebook but in some respects is a tad out of date in regard to some of the tech aspects such as search engines, Internet resources, and social media elements. Other than that is a solid resource and great addition to any new author's collection.

Good Ideas
As a new author myself, I am intensely interested in finding good ways to promote my book. This book was very helpful to me. There were many new ideas in it that I had never considered or thought about. It was easy to read, with a good table of contents so you could easily find any particular aspect of publishing and marketing you wnted. I especially liked the references to the various web sites I could explore on the internet to help me market my book. This was well worth the money I spent. -- Val Lull

Excellent advice for authors
I am self-publishing a book and I need to promote it, especially to get better and better reviews. Patricia Fry's book opened my eyes as to what I could and should be doing, even if parts of it do not fit my circumstances. This is an excellent book. I think many authors would find it valuable.
