Not by the heater Infrared quartz tube, although it does get warm and uses a fan to cool the tube, but by the infrared frequency. So you might think it is not working but it is.So,,, Infrared heaters are meant to gradually build a room's temperature by warming up the objects within range. Then the warmed objects warm the room by letting off heat. The objects can be furniture, people and animals in the range or say view of the heater. Infrared heaters are very efficient in that they are better at warming a room for the energy cost, but it can take hours to get the effects.Instant room air heating comes from fan forced hot elements like Ceramic or hot coils. This heater can't even put out as much heat as a candle

The advantages of an infrared heater are quite apparent for the little amount of energy it uses and yet it keeps my corner of the room warm and cozy in the winter months. I've owned this unit for 2 years now and since it has been quite reliable with absolutely no problems. It's also a breeze to clean and maintain. I'm glad that I bought it.CygordMetro Vancouver, bc
