Gladiator Blu-ray 2018 Region B [4K UHD]

Awesome Movie

One of the best movies of all time for me. Russell Crowe is a truly a courageous hero in this movie and the musical score by Hans Zimmer is excellent. The first Battle at the Coliseum, supposedly in celebration of the Romans defeat of Hannibal and his Barbarians, the Gladiators being the Barbarians, the Gladiators win, and at the end of the battle, Russell Crowe is shown on a white horse with sword raised in hand to emphasize their victory. The music at the end of the Battle where Crowe is on his white horse with sword, is so fine, and emphasisis the courage of all these men. Russell Crowe was the leader, telling them to all stick together and they will have a better chance of survival. And they won. One of maybe six motion pictures I never get sick of. Crowe goes from the highest ranking General in the Roman Army and Chosen as heir to the thrown by Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris), to a defeated family man who's family was murdered by Roman soldiers at Commodus commands. Commodus commits patricide by killing his father (Richard Harris, one of my favorite actors who played the The Biblical characters of Abraham and John the Apostle towards the end of his career). He steals the thrown. and has the family of Maximus murdered. Maximus becomes the Gladiator that wins the crowd (mob) and defies the emperor.Commodus. Commodus becomes a megalomaniac emperor who has incestuous feelings for his sister and wants to dissolve the Senate. Lucius, the son of Lucilla, Commodus' sister, is in constant danger from Commodus, the mad emperor, even though Lucius is his nephew. Crowe and Commodus compete for survival in the Coliseum. Commodus stabs Russell Crowe in the side before the battle begins to create an edge for himself in this battle. Towards the end of the battle, Commodus looses his sword and asks the Romans surrounding the battle for a sword. Quintas, a Roman officer tells the men to sheath their swords. (Quintas also saw Commodus stab Maximus in the side before the battle). Commodus is left with a small knife and tries to kill Maximus. In this struggle, Maximus turns the knife back on Commodus and thrusts it into his throat. Lucilla, who loves Maximus, runs to see Maximus who is dying from the wound by Commodus. The first thing that Maximus says to Lucilla is, "Lucius (her son) is safe." Commodus had been a threat to Lucius especially after Lucilla planned an early escape for Maximus. She had to tell Commodus of her plan concerning Maximus' , or Commodus would have killed her son. Love this movie. When is is showing next?

Lo and behold, just when you thought Hollywood couldn't give us a great movie without soft p***, nudity, cheap sex scenes, language, blasphemy, and other filth, I run across this. The plot, script writing, acting, music, even the costumes are just superb. This is the type of movie that you could only get sick of after watching 60 times. This, THIS is how to get a movie right, Hollywood.

Gladiator was a 5+ star movie when it debuted in the theater in 2000, and whether you watch it in VHS, DVD or any format it remains a 5+ star movie. Now released in Blu Ray / Steelbook and surprise, surprise ;-)it is still a 5+ star movie. What did you expect? It's Gladiator... and the format it is released will never change the fact it is a 5+ star movie and one of the best movies all time, in this reviewer's humble opinion. I would enjoy Gladiator on a 5" screen in 4x3 format, heck, I would even watch it on one of those old Viewmaster slide flipper thing-a-ma-jigs from the 70's!! This movie is a classic, period. There is no other way to put it... So now, with Gladiator packaged in Steelbook and Blu Ray, and with 17 minutes of new footage in addition to the Theatrical version, could we even make a case that it is better than ever? Maybe now 5++ stars? Forget about the fact it is probably one of the most historically accurate movies Hollywood has ever produced. Then forget about how Russell Crowe turned in the performance of his career - probably the performance of anyone's career. And let's not forget that this movie was so good, that even Joaquin Phoenix turned in a good performance! The movie would stand on it's own without any of that - the plot and story itself was well laid out and well executed - and that alone make it a great movie. The Blu Ray transfer quality of the movie was good. There were a couple of scenes that did not transfer well, for instance the initial scene on the battlefield - some of the shots came out dark and not as clear as I would have hoped. But other than that, the movie looked great in Blu Ray - and definitely an improvement over my DVD copy overall. Bottom line - we are talking about Gladiator here. In Blu Ray. With 17 minutes of bonus. And in Steelbook to boot. One of the best movies ever made. Amazon should only offer a five star choice for rating this movie - the 4, 3, 2, and 1 star choices should be grayed out and not selectable! Thanks for reading.

Absolutely measures up to and completes the original.

Good movie, good acting and lots of action. On this it rates 4 stars. Some action scenes were indeed spectacular in achieving. Entertaining and nice follow-up to the first one.

One of my favourite classic movies. Enjoyed watching it again.

Il film è molto bello, pieno di effetti speciali e sonori e con molti costumi dell’epoca. Però il film non racconta i fatti veramente accaduti nel passato. Per esempio, non ci sono le prove che Commodo abbia ucciso il padre Marco Aurelio, che invece, è morto di peste mentre conquistava Vindobona, attuale Vienna. È invece vero che Comodo non si rivolgesse mai al Senato, che doveva rappresentare il popolo, per chiedere consigli, ma si rivolgeva al popolo stesso. È anche vero che Commodo scese personalmente nell’arena contro dei gladiatori, ma le battaglie erano manipolate a suo favore. È vero inoltre che sua sorella Lucilla complottò contro di lui e che Commodo fu sconfitto da un gladiatore. Il film mi è piaciuto tanto: la storia è strutturata bene e gli effetti speciali sono stupendi. E forse è anche per questi motivi che ha vinto ben cinque premi Oscar. E anche se ci sono scene di guerra e sangue, il film lo consiglio a tutti, anche perché oltre a essere un documento storico, è anche un film d’amore, di rabbia e di complotti. Il più grande lavoro di Ridley Scott è destinato a diventare uno dei più importanti film della storia del cinema. E se si pensa che il regista sia un vero esperto nei film fantascientifici, sorprende il fatto che abbia saputo affrontare un progetto così storico, ambizioso e maestoso come quello de "Il Gladiatore". Raccontando la storia del generale Massimo Decimo Meridio, che diventerà il più grande gladiatore di tutta Roma, Scott si avvale non solo di un profondo studio storico completo quanto archeologico, ma anche di un cast tecnico preparatissimo e di livelli irraggiungibili: dagli interpreti alle musiche. Ci troviamo di fronte ad una grande opera che suggerisce emozioni, un'opera capace di raccontare in modo impeccabile ed eccellente una storia importante e complessa come quella di Roma, un'affresco di pura armonia emotiva in grado di trafiggere i cuori di chi si imbatte in questo immenso film.

O filme é excelente. De resto, é mais um dos, já raros, blurays com legendas PT. Tudo em boas condições sem nada de especial a assinalar. A embalagem é a básica apenas com o BR 4K e o 1080p com extras.
