It Has Worked Flawless Right From The Start
I would not recommend this printer for envelopes or labels because it does not have a straight-path feed-through. If you open the door on the back, it displays an error message, Door Open. So that lack of feature is disappointing. It curves the paper around severely which is just fine for regular paper, however not a good situation for labels. It is OK for envelopes, if you only print a few of them now and then. It printed on Card Stock very well, once the parameter was changed to the thick paper setting. Otherwise it will leave residual toner behind which contaminates subsequent sheets, and the toner will not adhere properly. Once it is set correctly, it works very well. The print quality is very impressive. I went between line art, gray scale, photos, line drawings, and it auto-corrected for optimal graphics quality. Print quality is very impressive and surprising fast in both single sided mode and duplex mode, which by the way is very easy to setup. Overall, it’s a very easy printer to use. I like that. Some people complain that the toner costs 3 times as much, however it also prints 3 times as much, so the cost per sheet isn’t that expensive after all. Some of the problems others had reported were apparently corrected, because I didn’t have any problems at all. It has worked flawless right from the start.

Excellent printer for the price!
Purchased this printer for our business and my coworker is very happy with the performance. It is relatively quiet and it has not given us any jamming problems. It was very easy to install and compact enough to place it on top of a desk. If you are looking for a good quality sturdy built printer then stop looking and purchase this one. We received the printer promptly it was securely packaged as well. This is an awesome buy and replacement for the old printer that we had that kept jamming constantly. We need something that is reliable that can print continiously, we worked in a fast pace environment, efficiency is needed and we can definitely count on this product.

Good for Polar Bears, not so much for the user.
I purchased this thing to replace a M401 dn that worked flawlessly for years until the duplexer broke on using some heavy stock paper. I bought this thing, set it up on the Ethernet network, and it is connected as are a Brother mulitpurpose laser scan-fax-printer, an Epson wide-format inkjet printer, and a Cannon six-cartridge ink-jet printer. However, unlike the M401dn this LaserJet M402dn will go into sleep mode if not used and you absolutely cannot wake it up out of it unless you (1) use the menu on the printer and select a configuration report which causes it to come out of sleep mode and start printing again for a while or (2) you manually unplug the 110V cord and plug it in again which also makes it available again. The On/Off button on the front of the M402dn will not take it out of sleep mode. I am thinking of returning it tomorrow, I called HP support tonight with no results. Only thing to show for me consulting HP support on this product is an Email. No help available -- it should be. Prints nice, probably cost effective, but this Econo Mode might be good for polar bears but not for productivity!

Good performing printer for a good price on Amazon
Got this to replace my 14 year old Samsung printer that finally died. This is very fast and works well. There is the issue with HP that they must pick and arbitrary "purchase" date based on manufacture date. So when you go on link to check the warranty you find that HP says that some number of months have already expired. In my case it was 3 months worth. HP has a link that you are supposed to click to request a review and warranty adjustment to correct the issue. But that link was dead, so I had to open a support request and e-mail a copy of the invoice for the purchase. After about a week HP did finally adjust the warranty. So just be aware that you likely will need to do the same thing. This printer works very well with Linux using HPLIP. If you can get this model at a good price I would recommend it.

Easy setup with OSX and great output.
Set up with our two iMacs (OSX 10.13) was simple and quick... nothing to download and the printer appeared instantly in the printer set-up window. The printer is connected by Ethernet to our XFinity router. When a print job is sent to the printer while it's in ”sleep” mode, it takes maybe 2 or 3 seconds for the printer to wake up and another 3 seconds to complete the first page. Printing is unbelievably fast and the clarity of the output is perfection. This printer replaced a 20 year old HP LaserJet 6MP that still worked perfectly after 23,000 pages, but required an HP Jet Direct 300x print server to connect to a modern network. The connection between OSX 10.13 and the Jet Direct was becoming unreliable so it was time to modernize.

Great printer so far, with minor caveats.
After my HP 4000TN bit the dust (reasonable, given that it lasted 18 years w/o a hitch), I ordered this as a replacement. It's very fast, prints on both sides, has adjustable paper tray, connects to Google Drive, plus a myriad of other options. A few things to note: 1. The most baffling is the specified range of operating temperature, 63.5 - 77 degrees F. My old HP 4000 went from 50-91 degrees (see page A-15 of User's Manual). In my locale, most days in Spring through Fall are above 77, and some above 100. What will happen to this printer?? 2. It's a bit noisy when it's running, but that's to be expected. Quiet as a mouse in sleep mode. 3. I'm on a Mac and connect to a network via IP and a network cable. Works fine on OSX 10.8 and later, but an earlier OS is likely to consume a great deal of time and messing around. I suspect that if you connect straight to a computer via an USB cable, it will be breeze. 4. Supposedly these printers will automatically shut down after 2, 4, or 8 hours. There is no option to simply keep it in sleep mode until it is needed again. That's a pain. However, I saw comments stating that not all shut down, and mine seems to be among them. Problem solved! 5. My unit came with a toner cartridge already in stalled. 6. Prices on Amazon fluctuate wildly. The first one I ordered was $272, was not charged tax; not eligible for Amazon Prime. The second one was $251, charged tax; eligible for Prime. A third one I saw just now is only $181, no tax charged; with Prime. Wait long enough, and maybe they'll send one for free ;)

Good printer. Remember it’s 110V.
The printer was pretty good. I recommend this. Only thing was I had to use a step down transformer since I use 230V power supply. Also there was a slight damage to the product which I believe happened during delivery. Apart from that, I love this printer.

Good Value
My wife's Brother printer needed to be replaced. The printer had a second legal tray and was always a bit quirky. When the need for the legal tray ended, she wanted a new printer that duplexed, i.e. prints on both sides of the paper. After a fair amount of research I settled on the HP 402dn. She has used for a few months now and loves it. Happy wife, happy life. The set up is simple, it is quiet, fast, and does an excellent job of duplexing. HP does not mention the flash blue light which seems to on all the time. When the light is flashing, the printer is asleep.
