Canon Life Size Converter EF Macro Lens

Did not work.

This item was primarily designed for the Canon EOS 50mm f2.5 Macro 1:2 lens. This adapter allows you to amp your lens to a 1:1 or twice the image resolution. Be sure to add it to your lens before than mounting it to the camera so that your electronics are properly compensated for during metering. While you will loose a f-stop or or two using this adapter I have still made many photos that paid for this accessory many times over. Add a ring lite to your rig and watch things really pop! NOTE: Others have since reported that the 1:2 adapter can also compliment other lenses to a 1.7x ratio such as the 100mm Macro... I might add that using Extension Tubes, Bellows, and 1.4x & 2x converters yield additional interesting image capabilities, but be mindful of f-stop depreciation... I find a Right Angle eyepiece with magnification adds icing to the cake as a viewing accessory!

I bought this not knowing if it was compatible with my gear given the conflicting feedback. This WILL work on lenses other than the 50mm macro. The Converter has a flat front element. So as long as your macro lens does not have a protruding rear element it will work. I use it with a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro and it does just fine. It doesn’t change the minimum focus distance but it does double the magnification turning a 1:1 macro lens into a 2:1 macro lens. You loose a step of light with it. The construction is mid-grade. Not sturdy metal but not cheap plastic. If you use the converter with an extension tube set you get crazy magnification.

The fit of the back of the EF mount onto the camera body was a bit tight / stiff (but not 'grindy' at least), or I would have given it 5 stars. Otherwise the adapter communicates with my EF 50mm f/2.5 macro. I'm happy.

If you have the correct matching lens, this converter is a must-buy. Gives life-size images, amazing detail with beautiful clarity. Excellent bang for the buck, especially used, of course.

First image is with compact-macro lens and second + life size converter. For both images i use same parameters with my canon 600D F8 / ISO 800 / 1/50

This converter allows the Canon 50mm f/2.5 macro lens to render a 1:1 (life-size) image. Great for macro work. Be advised that you cannot focus to infinity with this attached however.
