Or you can mount one with SATA cable and the other one with USB to SATA adapter. It doesn't matter which hard drive is connected with which. As long as your cloning software recognizes both drives. Just make sure that the USB to SATA adapter and the USB port you connect to are both USB 3.0. The speed is much faster with USB 3 ports and adapter. Hope this helps.

Would this be compatible with a macbook pro 15" late 2011 model?

The machine I am using right now is my Mid-2012 MBP 13 inch. I cloned one of these drives into this machine at the beginning of November. This "vintage" ol'girl with 16GB of RAM (that's right sixteen GB) now screams along. I think that I have a couple more years of useful life in it. This is a good price for the Samsung PRO model, it will likely come down in price, like most electronics.
