Life Without Diabetes: The definitive guide to understanding and reversing your type 2 diabetes

Exceptionally clear explanations of diabetes and its reversal
This is a fantastic book written by the leading researcher into diabetes and its reversal. Some of the others have lost me in the medical explanations but I thought this was very clear. It explains why you may have type 2 diabetes and how it arises in your body. It seems we all have a personal weight threshold based on how we store fat. Once we exceed it, we're in trouble. This explains why you may have type 2 diabetes but your much fatter friends are fine.In the first few years after diagnosis, if a person loses 15% of their weight or 15 kg for people above 100 kg, then there is a high chance the diabetes can be reversed as you fallback below your personal threshold. Even for someone with longer standing diabetes, there is a chance of reversal but it depends on how resilient the insulin producing cells are in your pancreas to high glucose in the blood. It then goes on to explain the 3 stages of weight loss and maintenance and gives support by sharing a few recipes for each stage. It would be nice to have the calories of these recipes but they do say the number of meals. In the first (fast) weight loss stage, your body will have a massive reduction in calories so I'm not sure the exact calorie count matters. After remission, you have a weight target to work to and action needs to be taken quickly if you go above it.This is very highly recommended although I agree that others have written earlier books based on the author's research so the ideas may be familiar to you. I think it's nice to read about the ideas from "the horse's mouth". This way you know that nothing has been changed or confused.Update - Did it work?************************"I was told I was diabetic in November 2019 and started losing weight quickly. Three months later I was down about 18kg and my hba1c score was 43 but it was on a very low carbohydrate diet.In August 2020, I'm now 30 kg down on my maximum weight and my new hba1c score is 37. This is after eating a much more liberal diet although not as carb intensive as I was eating before diagnosis.I can't more highly recommend the approach of rapid weight immediately after diagnosis.

Wish I’d read this year’s ago.
I first bought this book in 2020. I’d been type 2 for over 20 years with varying levels of both good & not so good control. When I started to read the first few pages of the book I thought the author was talking about me. The book explains in simple terms what diabetes is & provides an understanding in layman’s language to assist you in moving forward. Armed with the guidance from the author I lost 21kgs over nine months to attain a BMI of 25. During the nine months I came off insulin after three months & metformin after 13 months. I’ve remained in remission since & have made a point of educating myself around nutrition & exercise. Knowledge is power! Thank you Roy Taylor.

Found this book to be very informative and the recipes very useful and would recommend it to family and friends living with or interest in the subject of diabetes.

If you only buy one book about your Type 2 diabetes, it must be this one.
I have Type 2, having been diagnosed 4 days before lockdown v1.0, back in March 2020. Even before downloading this Kindle edition more recently, I had already taken the decision to make the required changes to my eating habits though frankly, as Covid would then leave me without smell or taste, eating sensible quantities of suitably low carbohydrate and often rather odd foods became easier than it would have been for me pre-Covid. Every cloud, etc.Seriously though, this is well written, full of essential knowledge and a real source of hope. My resting blood glucose was 62 when diagnosed, my weight an horrific 17st 4lb, now, a year and three months along, my number is down to 41 and I weigh an almost spot on 12st 5lb. Thanks to this book, my own response to the diagnosis and Covid's removal of my favourite senses after sight and hearing, I'm able to see some real progress. Among all of the factors involved, this book is foremost and must be recommended highly. Buy it now, go on, why wait? You do want to kick your diabetes into remission, do you not?🙂👍

Good book explaining how diabetes is caused and can be prevented and reversed. Certainly does encourage one to change food habits

Diabetes prevention and much more
There are many books on the market about diabetes, insulin resistance, inflammation and metabolic health, but I haven’t yet found another as clear, engaging, practical or as motivating as Professor Roy Taylor’s book. It packs a punch, for which, much thanks.

The information in this book changed my life
I was diagnosed with borderline diabetes in February 2019. Fortunately, I subscribe to New Scientist, which had a synopsis of a recent trial Professor Taylor organised, where 50% of the trial participants achieved remission from Type II. I found the underlying journal article in the Lancet, and it struck me as a solution I could try for myself. (This was before this book was written.)I ate 1,200 calories a day for 2 months, and moved on 1,600 for the third month. This was a success - my diabetes went into remission, and my 1AC moved into the normal range (well below the pre-diabetic threshold).Since then, I have lost a bit more weight (my BMI is now 21), and my bloodwork has remained good.So if you have Type II or pre-diabetes, I cannot recommend this book strongly enough. The information in it changed my life - it is good it all collected in one place. As others have said, the book is a bit light on recipes. I used a calorie tracker for my diet, and still use it to avoid eating too much now I am a healthy weight.,

Great book from a true pioneer
Dr. Roy Taylor's book is easily the best book I have read this year.I am a lay person who is concerned about putting on weight, possibly decreasing insulin sensitivity, and becoming unhealthier in general.I am not a diabetic, but got so much understanding about how our metabolism behaves, where things can go wrong, and what we can do about it.His team's ground breaking research details the vicious cycle that plays out between the liver and the pancreas and leads to ever increasing fat levels, insulin resistance, and in susceptible people type 2 diabetes. Most importantly, the book details how this process and thus diabetes type 2 can be reversed in many cases (through our own actions).I have found the content very accessible and easy to read and understand.Great book.

Eye opener...ouvre les yeux
I bought this book for the simple reason after a blood test the Dr told me I was in the type 2 diabetese range. After reading this and a reasonably strict diet I managed to remove 15kilos and my blood sugar levels came right down with it!J'ai acheté ce livre pour la simple raison, après un test sanguin, le Dr m'a dit que j'étais dans la fourchette du diabète de type 2. Après avoir lu ceci et un régime raisonnablement strict, j'ai réussi à éliminer 15 kilos et mon taux de sucre dans le sang est descendu avec !
