Basic Electrical Troubleshooting for Everyone
J**.
Extremely basic, good for newbies
I've been in the electrical field since'75, first as an electrician, an then as an engineer. So I've got my own war stories. What I had hoped for in the book, is more of a technique-based approach along the lines of put your meter here, and look for this or that.If you are just starting out, then this book is going to help you discipline yourself, and that in itself is a huge step in the right direction. But if you came here as an already established troubleshooter, then there isn't all that much here for you.In all fairness, "Basic" is the first word in the title, but I took a point off for the rather lengthy discussion on safety that could have been better used on actual troubleshooting. As far as safety goes, I boil it down to "don't become one with the circuit".

Good Pointers But Diagrams Difficult To Follow On Kindle E-Ink
A good jumping off point for understanding the process of troubleshooting and locating the problem. The Kindle version was difficult to follow because the diagrams were either unreadable or text ant-size.I had to use my iPad and PC to see the diagrams. The diagram pictorial are good for beginners but are not schematic diagrams seen everyday.Using CSI and Sherlock Holmes techniques, fixing a difficult problem and saving hundreds of dollars of electronic gear from the junkyard is rewarding. Wish the book, went deeper into troubleshooting with more everyday examples and real world problems like monitors with bursting electrolytic caps and timing issues.

Truly is for everyone interested in troubleshooting
Very well written book on troubleshooting. I would recommend reading it even if you're not interested in electrical. The steps Darrel talks about can be applied to almost anything in everyday life or at work. As a machinist and a high production facility I found a lot of useful information about troubleshooting here. As electronics hobbyist it was a very enjoyable book. Highly recommended except for an issue with the graphics not black and white friendly for the Kindle paperwhite and much too small to be useful.
