budget friendly angled scratcher
What I like about this is that it is a sturdy, wedge shaped cardboard scratcher. Nothing fancy, just something that is appealing to cats that enjoy and angled surface to claw into. It was budget friendly, and I decided to purchase this on a whim. Upon arrival, I opened up the package and set it down in between two cat climber units, as this is a typical hang out spot, and a good way to introduce a cat to something new is to put it among items they are familiar with. Adding catnip doesn't hurt either ;) With 4 cats already standing by out of curiosity, I doused the wedge with the included bag of catnip. This propelled my old boy (16.5 years old) to immediately start clawing at the scratcher with fervor. They rolled, scratched, sniffed, and played with each other. This was a good time. I'd say the greatest use has been with the introduction of this item, but they do go to it. We have areas all over the house to scratch, of different heights, materials, and locations. I'd say that if you don't have an angled scratcher and want to try it out, this is a good one to try. If you have bare floors, I recommend placing it on something so it doesn't slide. For me, it is snuggled between two climbers. Since this is an additional scratcher to my arsenal, I may place it in a big fun box with some toys and catnip, so they can get crazy and get a good scratch while they are at it.

They go bonkers for this
Since one of our cats had decimated an old cat tower and even knocked it over once, we thought we'd give her a new option in a fresh location. A side advantage would be that it would draw her attention away from all the written material and sometimes important documents on the table nearby, where we attempt to work and she routinely sabotages us. Our ploy is working. She adores it, snuggles up to it, and even sleeps by it sometimes. The boring ole papers she likes to mess with pale by comparison. Our other cat has joined in the fun. They've pretty much ruined it, so we decided to get a new one. They're working on it assiduously, so I'm sure yet another new one will be in our cart by year's end.

Smaller than you're picturing
This isn't the product's fault, but here's why I gave this only three stars for value:A year ago I found a big, sturdy, corrugated wedge-shaped scratching pad in a brick-and-mortar store, and my cat LOVED it. She used it as a ramp to get up to sweater chest it leaned against (she's not old/infirm, just lazy - the little snob also ignored the fun dangling toy in the middle of the wedge) and would hang out on it, chilling. It was the best $30 I'd spent on her all year. But she also used it to scratch, so it ended up shredded, and I couldn't find a replacement in a "real" store. This was the only corrugated cardboard wedge Amazon was bringing up in my search, and since it was the same price as the last one I bought ($30) I assumed it would be the same-sized product. So I didn't pay attention to measurements.Oh boy...It's literally 1/3 of the size of the one she was used to. It's way too low to use as a ramp for my sweater chest, it's way too small for her to feel comfortable hanging out on, and the one time she tried jumping off the wedge it moved several inches, not big/strong enough for that particular law of gravity, and scared her.It does seem sturdy enough for what it's designed for, which is a scratching pad and not a ramp. It's just so LITTLE. My cat can't get used to the size. She'll halfheartedly scratch it and then look up at me like, "What is this, a scratching pad for ants?" The little ingrate. She's not a huge cat, medium-sized at barely 10 pounds, but she looks comically large on the ramp, which is only a tiny bit bigger than her.So if your cat is less spoiled than mine and has never had a big wedge scratcher that it has gotten used to walking up and down as a ramp and sitting on hanging out, this would probably be a great product! It does seem to be of the same quality as her old one, just a miniature version. I'm really hoping she'll realize that it's still good for her claws and still more fun to use than flat scratchers that just lie on the floor. We'll see....Anyway, this product would be best if you have kittens or very small cats :)

WORTH IT!
A must for kitty parents. My two boys are notorious couch killers. So, I decided to try a more vertical scratcher and bought 2 of these and put them at either end of my couch where they love to shred the arms of both ends. As I was removing these from the packaging both of my claw monsters were trying to pull them out of the box faster, very helpful. They immediately started in on both of them as I was setting them down in their strategic positions and haven't stopped. Ahhh, my poor couch gets a reprieve. I love these, probably more than the monsters do and I will not ever be without these scratchers again. Ever. Incidentally, the boys really do play with the holes in them. (As pictured.) One cat will lay on either side of the scratcher and they will reach their little arms in the holes and punch each other in the face repeatedly. ("teenaged boy" kitties.) They will also put toys in the holes and retrieve them later when they want to play with them. These arrived within 3 days of my ordering, packaged well. They are of substantial size and weight. My boys are Maine Coons and they can actually stand on these whilst scratching, upwards or downwards, so that should give an idea of their sturdiness and size. They also don't slide around much while being tormented by claws. I do have mine propped up against the couch though. I have had these now for about 2 months and they are still going strong. Conclusion: Sturdy, substantial, well made and can take repeated beatings. Get more than one and place strategically around your home if you have vertical OR horizontal claw monsters. *Photo on the left is what it looks like. *Photo on the right is what it looks like after 2 months of constant abuse and use. Holding up very well!
