By Searching: My Journey Through Doubt Into Faith

She searched and she found Him for whom she searched
This is a great autobiography of a young woman through her university years at the University of British Columbia to Moody Bible Institute to candidate with China Inland Mission to her departure for China as a missionary with CIM. It starts out with her questioning the faith with which she had grown up, but never really accepted for herself, when a university professor started describing the myths of Genesis. She decided she was an agnostic, and went all the way through the university that way, unaware of the Godly people who were praying for her soul. But she didn't have peace, and couldn't live with herself, and couldn't sleep, until one night when she was tempted to commit suicide, but couldn't do it, and instead, prayed to God for peace, and God gave her peace. For some time after that she struggled with worldliness and God's direction in her life, but step by step, God showed her the way He had for her, and she trusted Him, and He directed her paths.

Such an encouraging autobiography
This book was loaned to me 12 years ago and I really really loved it... I was reminded of it again this year so I bought it, and once again was so encouraged and challenged as I read it. A real-life account of Isobel Kuhn, and it gives you such a big, encouraging picture of a God who cares about the little details in the life of His children.Loaned it to a friend a couple months ago, and she also really loved it, shared it with her sister, and asked if she could pass it on to another of our mutual friends. I'm glad this book is making the rounds among my connections.

An Honest Book about a Woman’s Search for God
Great autobiographical book of the early years of Isobel Kuhn, as she searched and found her faith. The way that God led and provided for her is miraculous. And I appreciated her honesty about her life. I will be reading her other books about her missionary years.

What happens when you're searching?
A must read for any Christian! And even for some non-Christians. This book is inspired and will touch your heart with its honesty. It answers many questions which you find in a searching heart, and honestly relays the struggles of the author and how she questioned her own faith, and reveals a God who is searching for our hearts. Beautiful in it's simplicity.

Great little read
Great little read. Although this book was written in the 50s it grapples with many of the same issues we do today. I thought about the recent Christian movie, God's Not Dead. Isobel lost her faith while studying at university, only to be found by Christ and become a missionary.

An excellent story and a help in the face of discouragement
An excellent story and a help in the face of discouragement. Her testimony of going through trials and keeping her faith is very helpful. Before I give it away I am going to read it again.

Wonderful Testimony
I actually bought this for a present, having read it some years ago. A truly wonderful testimony of a young woman called to be a missionary. The sacrificial lives many of the former missionaries lived is so far removed from our 21st Century lives, I find myself greatly challenged. I thoroughly recommend this book. The story is not the romantic notion we nowadays may have of missionary work, but a truly realistic and honest ‘search’ to find what God’s will is for an individual life.

Beautifully written and inspiring.
This is a fantastic account of a persons journey to full submission to Jesus. It offers lots to both Christians and non Christians. If you are doing any kind of soul searching I would recommend you read this book.

Well worth reading
This is a lovely and well written book. Although it refers to a young woman's search for God back in the 1920's, it is certainly not out of date! To be recommended
