Palmetto [DVD]

Great performances from Harrelson who plays a man on the verge of completely destroying his entire life and career because he let himself get caught in someone else's drama, and Shue who plays a psychotic, disturbed seductress and conspirator. Both actors prove their ability to play very diverse characters throughout their film careers.The story is definitely credible enough to be considered lifelike, as are the characters, who are often flawed and unpredictable. I especially like the acid tub part. Definitely worth a look for fans of the crime and conspiracy genre

Woody Harrelson is my favorite actor of all time! He is so enjoyable to watch with his sexy swagger mixed with bumbling incompetence. I wish someone could help me understand the end: was Elizabeh Shue actually the old man's wife? Who was the older woman dressed like her who appeared at the end? If the body of the daughter (Chloe Sevigny) was dissolved in acid, then who was the girl discovered in the beach side cottage? HELP!!

I have not seen this in a long time. And since I haven't finished it yet, I won't put I "loved" it yet. But anyone out there--esp Men--Take a look at ch.6 and freeze at 20:20--How about that for a perfect face! I really love this so far--there is so many subtleties,mainlly by Elisabeth, it is very very well-done!

Still not sure if this is supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek send up of film noir, or if they were actually taking themselves seriously. Three stars for the hot women, an appealing performance (mostly) from Woody Harrelson, some comedic scenes, and for shooting it somewhere other than California. Points deducted for not tying all the loose ends together, and leaving a bunch of plot elements unexplained. Points also deducted for some inconsistent performances, including Elisabeth Shue (who I usually love) but who sometimes over played her part and left me wondering what she was aiming for. Films like this -- with a bunch of seemingly confusing and contradictory elements -- really owe it to the audience to finally explain everything and make it all work in the end. You can then appreciate the cleverness of the story. Unfortunately, Palmetto fails to do this, which leaves you resenting the film makers for wasting your time and taking the easy way out. Still, it was funny at times, and entertaining at others, and -- did I mention the hot women?

This is one thousand percent (1,000%) film noir! The actors portrayed their characters well: Harrlson the nice guy with flawed, weak character; Shue a charming, clever sociopath; Gershon a decent person and an artist in love with Harrelson; and all the others--just watch. I absolutely loved the locations; just like old Florida with a 1950s vibe, but more recent.

The plot was a little slow but the suspense was worth watching.

Wow - this film is simply amazing. With so many twists and turns from start to finish, it keeps up an intense interest for the viewer. It comes with both English and French soundtrack (with/without English subtitles) and packaged in a card hinge-lid case. Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Shue put in solid performances but Gina Gershon (main love interest) is quite simply beautiful, seductive and menacing all rolled into one. Chloe Sevigny also plays an important part in the plot as a young temptress. The very strong cast (with many great performances) and solid direction, make this an essential addition to my neo-noir (Adventure/Thriller) film collection. I couldn't find a region 2 UK release though (which is a pity), so had to settle for the USA region 1 (NTSC) instead. Consequently it doesn't come cheap, but it's a great buy if you find it for the right price. 5 star entertainment and highly recommended to the more serious film-buffs I could watch this over and over again.
